Think of it as a public service... you're helping the community learn important lessons about security.
If they didn't want that diamond stolen from that safe, they shouldn't be leaving post-it notes with the code on it lying around.
I might very well do something like this as well.
As fun/easy as stealing is, it's... well, I guess too easy? It's interesting... I don't usually feel this guilty stealing in games.
There's also the fact that as the economy is in the game right now, there's not much point/need to it.
I mostly do it out of habit and obsession with hoarding wealth in games.
Otherwise the game gets too easy and too soon you have more money than you could ever need. I like a little grind.
I started a new game just today with this set of rules and even started with only 90cr in my pocket, no apartment. Found a diamond, ignored it. Ain't mine. At one point, the killer in my first murder case broke my leg which crippled my further investigation (duh) and so I limped to city hall and filed the case without the murder weapon or an arrest... I could not afford hand cuffs.
Now I can and my leg is fixed. On to new endeavors... like a cheap ass basement hole some call an "apartment".
I am so hungry.
