Finding a murder weapon?
I've completed 2 murder cases but never found the murder weapon, checked everywhere I could think, the victims apartment, the killers apartment, even the trashcans in and around both properties thinking they dumped it. Anyone have any tips on finding murder weapons?

Most the time it's on their person. And I've noticed if they leave their home, they'll put it on their person even if it wasn't on them when they were at home.

That said I've found what was clearly the murder weapon before, even had a transaction record for it, and the game didn't want it.

depends on the quest

basically all the weapons i have found:

1) near the body, like 90% of the time (razors, knives, etc), always on the floor, if it's here then it's never a static item in a drawer or something
2) on the killer, usually whatever weapon they have
3) if it's a gun it can be in the killers apartment
4) syringe, next to body, only ever got this right once so far because i thought the murder weapon would be 'poison' and not the syringe, it will never be the poison bottle >~<

Ok good to know, my last 2 murders were both stabbing wounds and I scoured for like an hour trying to find a knife or something out of place, with no luck, so i just used the closest sharp item in the room. Maybe it was a bug

did you search the person you arrested too?

I did yeah, had nothing but a wallet on him, but it was the correct guy.

I once found a syringe floating in mid-air near where a poison murder happened earlier but by then I had long closed that case and I swear it wasn't there when I was actually investigating the case. Weapons tend to be the hardest part but at least you only miss out on 300cr if you don't get it right.

most often a corresponding type of weapon lying on the ground (not nessessarily close to the victim). Search for blunt or slash weapons lying in the appartments. Grab it in your inventory, use the scan option in inventory. If fingerprints on it are neither the victim's or a roommate, it's the murderer's weapon (the murderer could be the roommate, so be carefull)

Sringe are weapons (they have the gun icon in inventory). look for it if the victim has been poisoned.

If you find nothing, the weapon could be on the murdere himself. Or at his house.
He can alo rarelly try to dispose of it if he becomes suspicious. I had a case where a roommate let me enter, and the other guy inside (culprit) rushed to grab a suitcase I had to steal, then tryed to walk out of the appartment like nothing happened. I bet murderes can do it too.

To report a weapon correctly, you have to pin the weapon, pin and link the exact fingerprint you found on it (not a random murderer's fingerprint you found in the victim's room), then report the weapon.

i don't think you have to link the fingerprint, i recently got the fingerprint link for the resolve form off of a door instead of the murder weapon

albeit my memory sucks

Ok maybe that could have been it, I only ever scanned for fingerprints with the scanner out on object and didn't try to actually pick them up. Ill give that a shot

sometimes the weapons get stuck inside something else near the corpse. Sometimes the corpses gets inside furniture!

this is unrelated to the op but if you barge open a door to an npc standing in front of it/not in the locking animation, they go flying like a ragdoll and it's amazing

Yes as the murder happen in real time and the victim don't just drop dead on the floor, this can happen. Especially with blunt/slash weapon, as the victims tends to run like headless chickens when they get hit the first time, and will probably get killed when cornered

I've had two murder cases, and both times I found the murder weapon in the suspect's apartment (a gun and a knife), just lying around. The gun was out in the open, the knife in a kitchen drawer.

I ran into a glitch where the weapon just disappeared from the perp's apartment, as a way around that I quicksave before going into the apartment, and then, if it's not there, and it's also not on the perp, I reload the quicksave. Every time I've done that, if the weapon wasn't visible beforehand and was on the perp or in the apartment it appeared after that point.

How glitchy is this system? Because I have a case where the murder weapon just didn't get recognized. The victim died from poison, I found a poison bottle on the murderer's person, I pinned both the poison and the fingerprint from the murderer on the poison, I even physically held onto the poison. Still rejected. Unless I just got unlucky and the killer used some other poison?
