How do you guys feel about the lockpicking in this game?
When I first saw lockpicking in the interface, I thought "cool, I love lockpicking minigames". But then it turns out it's all automated. Do you think there should be a Bethesda style lockpicking minigame or should it stay as is?

i like it

i pick too many locks and it takes so long with no minigame, i started barging down doors instead lately

it's nice that there's a lockpick speed sync disk

I like it the way it is. The trick is avoiding cameras and witnesses while lockpicking, I don't really want a minigame on top of that.

I've never liked lockpicking minigames, so I'm obviously biased, but I find them at least somewhat bearable when they're only occasional.

Considering how often you're picking locks in this game, though, I would most definitely not want to have to do a minigame every time.

God, please, no lockpicking minigame. The best minigame in the world stops being good after the 20th time you've had to do it, and you're going to be picking a LOT more than that.

Besides, you're not doing "nothing" during that time- time is still progressing, and people/cameras can see you. You need to not be distracted connecting pipes or whatever so you can decide whether it's time to stop working on the lock and ditch.

Bethesda. no.
Thief: Deadly Shadows. YES.

In thief you have lockpick types, harder types for more expensive and dangerous places.
Each type has it's own pattern and you can actually practice on them in your hideout to learn the pattern and pick them faster. I'd like a minigame that rewards knowledge and skill.

I got so good at the locking picking in Thief back in the day I could open the hardest locks in like 3 seconds flat. Loved it.

Time didn't stop in thief while lockpicking either. So getting good and being fast was crucial to getting in and out undetected.

Dude, that sounds awesome. I never played any of the Thief games so I didn't know about that.

I feel lock picks should be capped at 30 and picking kits turn into usable items

The "minigame" is trying to keep an eye on your surroundings, knowing that turning your camera away from the lock will pause the picking. That seems to be the theory, anyway.

I'm fine with the current setup. A minigame would possibly be cool at first, for maybe an hour or two, but, would definitely get stale after that given how much it gets used imo.

A lockpicking minigame would make me cry. But it'd be cool to have as an option in the game settings menu

newbie game devs always make the mistake of turning trivial tasks into minigames. This is better.

I like how it works, it's simple and allows you to look over your shoulder whilst doing it which is both useful and imersive.

What would work well is having a simple one for "Boss" level locks so to speak. Like keep the picking bar, but it pauses at each "step" until you rotate a dial (for example using radial locks). And the dial has a code, like 1-9-4

So you would pick the bar to step 1.
Enter number 1 by spinning left.
Pick to step 2.
Enter number 9 by spinning right.
Pick to step 3.
Unlock by entering number 4 by spinning left.

Or have the picking segment replace the spinning, so if you have just numbers but no instruction on spin.

That could be interesting.

I wouldn't mind it so much if it was occasional, I just don't want to have to do a minigame for every lock I pick.

Happy there is no stupid overdone lock picking mini game.
