But i usually mark green for locations and relation to locations and blue for evidence. Red for everything else.

In cases where I had a lot of leads, e.g. when I had to find "someone with a partner who does [random office job]", I lined up the profiles of everyone with that job and crossed out non-matching people (with the right-click menu). That way I didn't forget people and re-check them after ruling them out.
