Edit: Their apartment should also have a lot of a certain type of fingerprint which will technically confirm their prints.
2) Go to their place of work and find their employee file. It will tie their prints to their name.
3) Go to city hall and search for their name in the government database. Print out their file and look at it, that will also tie their prints to their name.
3) Handcuff them, go behind them and take their prints.
4) Knock them out and take their prints while they are unconscious
I'm trying to play ethically so I'll use the job or city hall method first. Handcuff if that fails.
My killers have surprisingly been very cordial. "Like.... come on in detective... this is where I plan my killing spree. You want prints as well? Why not". It honestly sometimes throws me for a loop if I haven't confirmed they are the killer yet.
This is a real-world thing. Many people think being super cooperative will throw the investigators off them.
And for getting prints from knocked out people, try the left hand.
So how do you get their prints when they're cuffed?? It'll only let me "Inspect" or "search" and neither of those do anything
The letter designations mean nothing. They are essentially just 'fingerprint number 153 you've scanned', as the first fingerprint you pick up is always A, and then B, and then C, and so on.
Every character in the game has a unique set of fingerprints, and essentially the game (or, arguably, you, the detective) assigns letters to each new set of prints found, as they are found. A, B, C...Z - then AA, AB, AC...AZ - then BA, BB, BC...BZ - and so on.
So the first unique print you find/scan in a new game will always be A, the second will always be B, the 26th will always be Z, the 27th will always be AA, etc.
Each lettered print will only be attached to one person. So if the first print you find/scan ("A") happens to belong to John Smith, then any other "A" prints you find in that game will also belong to John Smith. If you find B prints, AA prints, BF, CT, etc. - they each belong to someone else.
Late reply, but for those still wondering - you have to aim your crosshair at one the npc's hands. You'll then get an option to take their fingerprints.
