I don't really mind that it can happen, since the game is simulation-oriented, but it would be nice to know when a key item/person doesn't exist anymore. So yeah, hopefully it's patched up over time.
It won't tell you to throw it into the sea if you pick up a random one unrelated to the case. I've tested this. Likewise, tossing the fake one into the sea doesn't cross it off either.
I had a document theft job where I found the right document, and it told me to go drop it off, but the box never got checked.
I'm sure it was the right document, though, because when I tried dropping it off, -that- box got checked successfully.
So the game registered that I dropped off the document... but not that I found it in the first place.
I've seen other people report the same issue, so it seems relatively common for that job type.
Mechanically how do you turn them in? Is there a box to put them in? Slide them under a door? under the dumpster it said to leave them near via interactable? Do I need the document out in my hand or no?
DO NOT throw it inside, it will check it off, delete the item and uncheck it
also sometimes there are multiple dumpsters on the same street and it only wants you to deliver it to one
if it's a 'throw it in the ocean', i had mine uncheck because i had it pinned, removing it from my detective board fixed it in the case file
you can also use the drop button in inventory though
I've tried throwing it next to the object several times on multiple saves, on multiple cases with multiple objects. nothing has worked.
ever since i started grabbing the right envelope/unpinning it from my board and dropping it on the right object these quests haven't failed once but that could be rng too
keep in mind the streets aren't only 1 tiny stretch of land, sometimes they can be like the entire block, which makes it easy to miss the dumpster on the other side of the building! you can check what street you're in via the bottom left of your screen, it updates whenever you leave/exit one
Very cool. Glad I spent hours on a quest that cannot be completed.
