If i couldn't get a match off the mailboxes I'd probably try again the next day and just keep checking fingerprints as I go about while doing another case.
Had a case where it only gave me their shoe size and that they loved music. kept that one on the back burner forever and would always check shoe sizes and made a list of people as I did other cases. When i found someone with that shoe size i'd ask their co-workers and neighbors about them.
Basically pick up another case and anytime you're doing something else keep them in mind. There's no time limit and you can hold quite a few cases at a time.
"We are going to have to look at these records with fresh eyes Marty. All right? Like we're totally green."
Also, did you try asking people randomly pointing at John Doe's record? I wonder if they said it is not enough info, or they would give something to go on.
Wow... that's even more insane...
Thanks for the tips... I guess scanning mailboxes is at least a bit more fun than checking the database one by one, especially if I were to go through the list from the phonebook systematically.
Now I kind of regret reloading my save...
I'd saved just before taking the job, and I headed to city hall to start looking people up, but just as I got there, I got a notification that a new murder had happened (I've just finished the tutorial).
So I reloaded from before I took the side job and went to city hall, meaning to just focus on that, but no murder notification... guess it's random.
I guess that's a... more profitable way of doing it. Grab some loot while I'm at it. lol
I did, and yeah, they said it wasn't enough info.
But early on, those can be hard and time consuming. Personaly I quit the case and select another one if there is no good info to look at.
Started off investigating the job poster. Checked everyone at their office and their partners. That was a nope. Checked everyone in their address book and their partners. That failed too.
Ended up checking every person in their building. Turned out it was their next door neighbor.
Ive been playing for about 80 hours, and after doing a bunch of these jobs, it's always someone no more than two degrees from the "victim".
I don't remember if pharmacies carry any steroids, but you might check their ledgers too.
I had a case where the only info I had was what building they worked in(the largest in my city), long brown hair, and shoe size 13. That's it. Was racking my brain for hours and following people home/from work with no success. Then I mis-clicked on the job listing and discovered the job listing had updated at some point without informing me- And had the person's whole name right there where it hadn't been before. Later testing is how I discovered it updates when you've made the call/opened the briefcase and got the target's info.
