Its just me right???
I assume I am just VERY dumb and missing something? Started 2 different games. Both had pretty much zip to do seemingly. I headed to a bar and in each game chose a basic "retrieve the thing" mission. Got the extra details. Found the building and the right floor. Fingerprint scanned to find the correct apartment. And tore the entire place up, every drawer, every room everywhere and in both cases, the item I was looking for.......nowhere. (an envelope)

No, it's the game. You need to tediously search absolutely every minute item, document every single thing, talk to every person, and basically LIVE as a beat cop for a couple months before you'll get any hint of what you're supposed to do.

You likely got a detail wrong in that long ass process, and of course the game wont even remotely hint what you did wrong. So have fun figuring out what that detail was. Make a wrong assumption/deduction and you're just unbelievably ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in this game.

maybe they didn't do the tutorial

that said, failing cases is a part of the game, you can save scum it if you want or abandon a case at any time

this. you only lose time by closing cases, but sometimes you have to cut your losses. I had a theft mission that had me scanning through several offices until I found the person, check their desk, break into their home, search everywhere, break into their mailbox, and then knock them out and search them when they come home to not find it. Only to realize 30 minutes after I gave up it was probably in their work locker.

Ah, at their work. Interesting I had not looked their. So it indeed COULD be me!

I did run through the tutorial a couple times actually and indeed (just to me) it may be that at times it might be a little TOO open ended as if it could be at their home, or work, or mailbox, or random friends house, or left at "the bar" etc etc....that may be a bit TOO much. But many may also love that even more!

The theft cases are occasionally bugged, so don't feel too bad. They are challenging because we're not given a lot of information and the envelope can be basically anywhere. :)

The documents can also appear at their workplace (and maybe on their person as well, I dunno). I've done a couple dozen of these, and they've never been unsolvable. Even with the really obtuse clues like hair color are enough to solve a case if you're clever about it.

Some missions as people said are bugged, also you gotta check their workplace too, and not just their desk, I found not one but three envelopes in a single cabinet at the mark's employer. But it wasn't at the mark's desk it was in an office nearby. Pretty sure the three envelope thing was not supposed to happen tho

Had a theft case where I was only provided basic information like where they work and that they like baseball. Used that to get their name then over to a phone book to get their address. Went to their apartment and asked if I could come in. They said yes so I waltzed in and ransacked their place and found the folder. Pretty amusing.

Sometimes I find envelopes even when I don't have a quest, so I'm thinking they aren't spawned by the quest and it's possible we're just finding the wrong one. The most recent one I found that worked was in a random drawer of a cubicle. I threw it in the sea and it only ticked properly once I unpinned it from my detective board.

I honestly don't trust the game enough atm for these kinds of cases. I had a theft case where I very easily found the subject, but checked literally everywhere and never found the envelope.

Theft cases are bugged, but I have always found the thing I've been looking for. Mostly at the guys workplace. Impossible to turn the mission in though, that part seems bugged.

Important thing to note - envelopes exist in the world and so are other important items. Just because you found "an envelope" doesn't mean it's "the envelope". Be thourough with your leads. Don't assume you are right, before you can actually confirm it. Check every place person could have stashed stolen goods, be it in their home, at the work or in their pockets.

I agree i love it. but yea i had a similar case where i had to steal an envelope from the person. I ripped their apartment apart, nothing. Beat this piss out of them with my trenchon thing and their roommate so i could search them, nothing. Went to their job, broke in. Searched their desk..nothing, searched every desk in the office, nothing. I ended up finding the envelope in the security room desk. So there is no telling where you may find it.
