Chat Gpt and A.I voice potential for this game.
The possibilities could be endless thanks to procedural generation this is the perfect game for it this is an idea for the dev more than anything.

It is a cool concept but not something we are likely to explore ourselves as we have worked with some really talented writers and would want to continue to do the same moving forward but maybe when the game is more open to modding this is something the community can explore

May I add that chatgpt or gpt4all can help add to the writing process enhancing each individual writer tremendously by letting them build larger sets of text and dialogue with ease, gpt itself does not have to be implemented but it can add to the output, one can simply feed the data sets to GPT and have it generate larger and more complex sets of dialogue, of course I can imagine this is a sensitive topic but just want to put it out there ;-)
just started watching a older video where you explain the background simulation concerning npc behaviour and personality, love the work so far, very promising.. with or without GPT I am happy with your approach on this game it simply works

No offense but the conversations with the NPCs are incredibly dull and lifeless. I'm sure the very talented writers you're referring to did a great job piecing the world together, but that doesn't change the fact that NPC interactions are still the weakest point of the game. That's exactly what AI could improve on. You really shouldn't rule it out like that.

Everything the dude wrote is true, you can literally go and test it yourself. Other developers are already making use of this technology, believe it or not. You don't have to ♥♥♥♥ on something just because you don't understand how it works.

the game is still in early access, the dialogue may be expanded upon in the future with future updates.

not only add flavour, but also steer away from default repetitive conversation loop. Having NPC the actually learn and responds to the world around them. I find dialogues with npcs just very robotic and juiceless. I would love the city to actually live its own life that can be reflected by the conversations.

i like this idea, it would definitely spice up the NPC dialogue, im kinda concerned with if the ai would keep it grounded in the immersive game though, id rather it stick to reasonable things they would know.

That would require actually running LLM for every play session continually.

LLMs are extremely expensive and taxing on running on almost any hardware severely restricting whom can play the game, and mostly for results that aren't really that good. Even then it has to dynamically be able to respond and read on what's happening in-game in a timely manner to not break suspension of disbelief, which we still haven't gotten to that point in AI yet.

Exactly. So I'm kinda confused with all those "with ai possiblities could be endless"-type of posts. They crumble like a house of cards as soon as you try to think how exactly it would work and what consequences it would bring. With current state of AI it's either "hey, let's make this game require monthly fee and being online" or "let's put 4090 or two into spec requirements".

Nothing is lost by giving those writers' lines a voice. It might be worth exploring AI voices, but I do agree that Chat GPT is lazy, voice talent is expensive and AI solutions to that are very affordable. Great game, love it so much. With or without voice!

Personally, I'd rather not have a chatbot generating nonsense in a game where detail is so important
tant umet Aug 19, 2024 @ 6:41am
It would need to be perpetually online for this to not break the game, which is a no-go for some people.
MeowMaster Aug 22, 2024 @ 5:44pm
Yeah no

besides just AI liking to just say nonsense as usual, making it not very reliable, the demand of running chatGPT level AI for EVERY single person in the city would be so demanding on the computer that it would either cause this poor performance game even worse performance at minimum but more likely make it that most computers couldn't even hope to run this game.
