friends like the game, but when i told them you cant shoot the gun they were hesitant to play it
being able to do everything except actually use the guns feels lame to them. shooting your pistol is a big part of the PI fantasy. especially when other people can shoot you lol

I totally understand how killing NPCs as the PC would cause huge bugs and problems. But why not give the PC non-lethal bullets, or a stun gun?

Magnum PI, Hammer, Simon and Simon, Columbo, Leverage, Martial Law, Sherlock Holmes, and the world greatest detective, Batman. Not many guns there. I dunno why people think private investigators go all gun(g) ho on people. It's probably a messy situation for a private citizen to shoot someone even in self defence, because of all the red tape involved.

Then your friends wouldn't like this game even if there were shootable guns. Because this game is absolutely not about shooting

I'm glad there are no guns for my detective. :) But I "think" there might be a club and maybe some stun grenades? Maybe your bloodthirsty friends would like that. :)

forthcoming games may decide to use some of the imho brilliant inovative ideas implemented in this game and they may also include firearms, but will it for many people then be ruined?, or can they make it work to appease the majority,? i guess we'll find out but i would suggest huge restrictions on possible use would be the way to include such a feature, after all this should never be COD BF CSGO PUBG etc that market is already saturated with so many almost cloned FPS games, it's a refreshing change and although could be improved players are concerned that this could be detrimental.... though despite these concerns i can also see the idea work in this style of game..the door has been opened now, people can see the real unique appeal which this has, i expect some to follow suite sometime soon.

Personally I found the beating stick (Trucheon i think it's called?) you can get for like 50crows to be a great tool to keep on your person

Usually 2 hits to your target and they're down for the count, if you sneak up on them and land the first attack you can often take them down before they even know what hit em

There's also the sword and combat knife, which both can regularly put people down in a single hit, two at most (while still somehow being nonlethal damage, hilariously). Can find them at pawn shops or occasionally in other apartments.

I'm sure it will be added soon or later

A mod will likely add it in. Bullets already can't kill outside of murder cases (as I learned by setting an apartment building's security to "not player" and promptly wondering why the turrets were shooting) so as long as the guns aren't made into something ridiculous like being as strong as the sword or combat knife it should be perfectly fine in the player's hands. I don't get why people think they will turn this game into an FPS though, it's not like shooting people automatically solves cases and there are games that give you guns that fully encourage you not to use them. Plus, you can already go rambo with the sword so it's not like players will go crazy any more than normal.

Ever watch Dirty Harry or Magnum Force?

"I cant shoot people in this detective game? what a waste of time!"
Maya-Neko May 21, 2023 @ 3:38pm
It's not really about if detectives use weapons, because they absolutely do (Sherlock Holmes for example has one himself and asked Watson multiple times to bring one with him as well, even if he always tries to not have it being used obviously), but more about how it complements the gameplay and how it is balanced to not be OP (like having it use up 2 inventory spaces, 1 for the weapon and 1 for the ammunition or being extremely expensive, like 100cr per shot or the income being reduced drastically)

The turrets just knock out people, so non lethal bullets DO exist in the world.
That asides, I left about thirty bodies on the street earlier when checking some cameras with a sword. I really don't see how a gun would make any difference in terms of absurdity.

i know it sounds like they are upset they cant shoot their big manly guns

but what upsets them is the lack of of immersion, in a game where you can do anything, the few times you encounter what you cant do are really damaging to the immersion, player choice is tantamount.

if you pick up the box of shells, and the shotgun, instinct and logic dictates that shooting it would be an option yes?

What's confusing to me is you can buy guns and even ammo, but we're not allowed to use them? If we can't fire the gun, why are we allowed to purchase these items? Are we sure there's no way to fire a gun?

From a design perspective, it deceptively misleads the player at every turn that the detective should be able to fire a gun, yet they cannot.
