"Do you know this person?" results seem rather confusing.
Tried searching around and had no luck getting an answer that way, so I figured I'd ask here. Hoping that maybe someone can point out some obvious tidbit that I'm not noticing or am overlooking.

In this screenshot, I've got the map centered over the target area. I've asked a LOT of NPCs, and constantly get answers like:

Rane Street headed Ito Boulevard.
Ito Boulevard near Robers Common
Ferrari Street near <x store>
Tian Street headed Ferrari street
Ferrari street by Joep's 24

etc, etc. Alot of times they give a time too- Sometimes the time is even like a minute or two away tops- But I've yet to catch even a glimpse of the person I'm searching for. I go to ferrari street, they say she's been seen on Ito Boulevard- Go there they say she's been seen on Ferrari street- Stand in the middle of ferrari street for six hours checking everyone that goes past and it's a no-go. Same thing with hanging around outside Thorne House or Andre View- Hours spent checking every person that enters or leaves or even walks down the street and nada.

I've found several people who knew the person and this eventually lead me to 602 thorn house which I've yet to explore- But, What is with all the misdirecting when asking around? Why is the area they're seen in so ridiculously huge?

Here's another example:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2987741321
So this is another part of my city, I was hunting for an individual for whom I had like 20/23 pieces of intel- I knew exactly who they were, build, height, everything. Kept getting answers that they were on

Contee street headed Moller
Moller street north to Fitzpatric
Rousseau street headed east to Sanders street
Contee headed east
Contee headed west
Sanders street headed east
Sanders street headed west

etc etc. I wandered for hours in that area trying to find them, asking everyone- Literally several times people I asked would say "They're here now", but upon looking around there's noone else anywhere in view. Like, What the heck. Eventually I found them over on An Boulevard wandering back and forth between An boulevard, and Rousseau street, rarely wandering down sanders, or down to contee. An Boulevard was never mentioned by a single person questioned- And I asked easily 50-100.

So like... What am I doing wrong? What am I missing when When some NPCs are literally telling me "They're right here, at this moment" or "Oh they were here within the last 1-2 minutes.", and yet the person in question just isn't there? Starting to feel like I'm blind here.

Times are rounded to the nearest 15 mins, so you may not be as close as you may think. As for when "They're here right now" that means they're on the same street, since some streets are L shaped they could be around the corner, or at the far end of the block, things like that.

As for the confusing directions. it could be that the mark was visiting a street vendor or using a dumpster before turning back and heading home. Also some npcs meander. As in they walk halfway up a street, change their mind and walk back. and can do this several times a minute.

From your info on the second example, I'd guess the mark lives in the top middle building. I'd stop asking people on the street and start asking residents of the building.

oh my god i hate that, it happened to me once where i was hunting down the murderer who was a roommate of the victim and happened to work at the building right across, so i go back and forth and can't ever find them with always asking npcs where they are, always being those 2 places

i decided to turn in the case anyways and somehow they weren't the murderer when there was no other possible murder weapon that could have been used in the apartment and the only proof was some fingerprints on open drawers

and now im regretting my purchase a lot because its 20 bucks for a half-baked game

When they mention a store it's because they either work there or went there and there's security footage. Unless the time is the time of the murder, I wouldn't worry about the time so much and pay more attention to the locations. The pattern is, general area, specific area, building. Once you're lead to a building, go into the building and start canvassing floor to floor, the ones that are giving you info about an area or an intersection don't know anything at this point but the good news is once you find the right floor, any person on that floor should say, "Yeah, that's my neighbour...". I'd bet good social credits that your perp lives in the building bounded by Lynch, Curtis, Ferris, and Morris, in the first screenshot.

The, "They're here right now" message you're getting means they are actually in the vicinity. If you're on the street when you ask, it could be inside a building.

It's early access. You take your chances. Hold on and see what they have in store. If you genuinely got into a situation where the murder weapon was completely missing (did you search the perp when you arrested them?) then you got a bug and in my experience of this game, bugs are the exception, not the rule...and they'll be worked out soon.
I'm a huge fan of procedural crime shows, detective shows and stories and I'll fully admit that when I make mistakes on cases, they're usually my mistakes.

but they live in the same apartment, of course their fingerprints are on the drawers. that's what you'd expect, it's not suspicious at all.

Ah, You fell for the same trap I did on one of my cases. As Graknorke just said, The room mate lives in the apartment, so their prints are everywhere. Worse, After the murder is done, that room mate still gets ready for their day and walks around leaving finger and footprints everywhere, so it seems on the surface that the room mate must have done it, when in fact the room mate is just an idiot who ruined a lot of evidence at the scene.

In that scenario, You need to meticulously check every fingerprint near the victim and on the path from apartment entrance to the victim.. You're going to find the victims and roomies prints a LOT, But keep looking. In particular, check inside objects where the roomie is unlikely to have interacted in the short time since the murder, in drawers, in a safe, etc, by any writing on the walls.. Be as thorough as you can.

Worst case, Eventually a second murder will occur, and it will give you a second chance at obtaining the murderer's prints/shoe size and whatnot- At this point you can check for the room mate's prints from the first murder, and you'll either find them or you'll find a new set of prints that doesn't belong to that surviving roomie or to the newly deceased, and that's likely your murderer.

I picked up on how time is rounded to the nearest 15 minutes- But that's also how I know that several times the time given was no more than a minute away. If the NPC says "At 8:45" and it's currently 8:44 or 8:46, that means they were spotted within the last ingame minute.

In another instance I asked an NPC and they said 11:30, and I spoke to them like 2 ingame minutes later and they said 11:45, which would mean the last time they saw the person had changed and was now closer to the next 15 minute mark- Which again indicates they were spotted right about then as well.

I was however unaware of the L shaped blocks, though, so that could've contributed to some of my confusion, Thanks for the answer.

Ah, Now that's something I didn't think of.. checking the mentioned stores for security footage.. Also wouldn't have thought 'they're here right now' could mean in a nearby building.

You had a pretty solid guess for where I found the person from the first screenshot. It's actually the building north of the one you picked; between the two markets there is Thorne House, and their apartment ended up being 602 Thorne House.

And the bit about General Area->Specific Area->Building is helpful.. Thank you for the tips.

Between the two of you I think I've got a better understanding of it, and know where I was messing up a bit. :winter2019happyyul:

Yeah, unfortunately the NPCs aren't real sharp and don't exactly recognise what a wall is just yet.
Dangit...I knew it was close! Glad I could help. It was a great relief for myself when I found out the pattern of the responses when canvassing. The best part about sharing strategy for this game is that you're actually sharing real analytical logic. As a Sherlock Holmes fan, that almost makes me squee!
