option to disable roaches please?
i have severe entomophobia (fear of insects) and i know they're just a batch of polygonal pixels, but my brain knows what they're supposed to be, and i would really appreciate an option to not see them at all.

it removes them from the game entirely or just adds an item that lets you kill them?

I also have a phobia of bugs but I genuinely do not understand being afraid of these particular bugs. Is it the movement in your peripherals?

The only way to defeat your fears is to face them. That's how I got rid of arachnophobia and I actually started with video games and TV shows with spiders in them.

Yeah but not everybody wants to face their fears head-on with their hobby. Exposure is great but it's good to take care of yourself when you have a phobia.

And in some cases you really can't "get rid" of a phobia - exposure can desensitize you in these cases too, but it can be lifelong and still be difficult to see.

I'm always in favor of more choices. It sort of annoys me too to see the critters running around in my clean apartment. Having said that, the bugs sort of goes with the theme of a dystopian big city.

Perhaps the better way of handling this is to allow the player to hire that pest extermination company that many NPCs hire based on their V-mails. That would be another cool bit of roleplaying.

at my previous place, i dealt with a bed bug infestation. the entire apartment building had them, not just me. that took my fear of bugs to a new level. to this day, i will see things in my periphery and when i look, nothing's there. and less than a week ago, i had a scare because i'd accidentally brought a roach home from the goodwill store i bought something from, and as such, i spent the last few days dealing with intense anxiety.

yup. exposure didn't help me. it made me worse.

i installed the bug spray mod a previous user mentioned, and it works for me. i'm using the experimental branch even.

i would still want an option to disable them outright, but that might be a neat feature for players that do want it.

From it's description at https://thunderstore.io/c/shadows-of-doubt/p/Mom_Llama/BugSpray/

This plugin will remove the bugs crawling around on the floor in interior spaces. That is all.
