I like the game cycle of doing questionable, gritty detective work, managaing a crappy home life with a procedural spouse (lol-- I can't help but think that funny!), and having bills to pay and needing to make sure you have enough food at home at night- or your character will get hungry and eventually die (like if you food in a week) lol- just up and die- cause you didn't get any detective work. LOL. (No need to actually maintain a hunger meter or something- its just assumed if you have food in the fridge, you ate it.) Get a lot of work, and you can decorate your house like a swanky apartment or buy a high rise or something. Also- gambling would be funny- like use your last two cents to see if you can pay the bills kind of thing-- the real washed out detective experience. LOL (Why do I want to roleplay this so bad. lol??)
Anyway---
What would your ideal mod look like? If you care to talk about it?
The first thought was having a working economy where the companies make and lose money, and you can start your own business or manipulate to make a business fail. Also periodic elections for city officials. But I thought it was good to keep it with the crime-based gameplay.
Where I'd love to see this game going is where it's not about one-off or even serial crimes, but massive criminal organizations you have to pick apart... street gangs, mafia families, corrupt police departments and gov't officials, and corporate corruption, where the crime is structured to support the organization.
I like the idea of having to follow the smaller fish, the gang members selling drugs on the street, or hitmen for a criminal organization, and trying to turn them to get evidence on bigger fish, where there's a whole hierarchy of criminals, and they're linked (corrupt police or officials working with the mafia), and building a case one piece at a time to uncover the whole conspiracy and get evidence, including testimony, wire taps, financial information, etc.
Then the part about having a working economy and politics is that people form their own criminal organizations and actually make or lose money on it, so e.g. you can follow the money & phone calls, etc., as they're actually procedurally being used to perform the conspiracy.
That's a lot more ambitious of course, but that's the ideal form for this game in my mind, and if there were modding capability, I'd think about trying out some of these ideas.
Edit: I almost forgot. The other thing I'd love to see in this vein is the ability of the player to recruit and put together their own organized crime operations that make money for them through all kinds of rackets, including bribing police and officials and other actions to protect your operation from investigation.
however being able to disable the broken screenspace reflections would be nice
It would smooth out low info manhunts to a point.
i curse bethesda's name again. the end user should not have to rely on "mods to fix it."
This sounds like the kind of thing you're describing, minus the detective work I'm guessing. It's being made by ION LANDS, same devs that did Cloudpunk.
It'd be nice if the dev worked faster to fix these things without needing community fixes, but at this rate the community will have fixes ready before the dev does. Of course, if the dev then took those fixes and implemented them into the main branch for everyone, then everyone would win.
