It is not an issue per se, however, if you build or upgrade your computer or have any security higher than what is built in to the operating system, then it may cause lock out of the Steam copy, and there is no one willing to help. They are legitimate concerns.
If you don't run into an issue then be grateful but do not upgrade. If you already have it installed then it does not ever show again. Many games have used it in past and it has come a long way from critical system errors it used to cause.
Most people complain about the handicap of system to keep software and the lack of support. Honestly this is why Steam has been making the move beyond sales into firmware and OS. Windows threatens the client end and GOG supports software updates.
Regardless, it is still ironic that you have to validate through steam in order to validate through Tages in order to handicap yourself.
As a matter of fact, i happen to own this game in my library, HERE ON STEAM, the game works flawlessly, as if i just bought it, the only thing i installed was, tages, it's real simple, I just can't get why other's are still having problems loading this up.
Dude i havent been able to play this game for nearly a year because like you i ran out of activations. Today after reading this thread i tried to play it again. Guess what? It worked :D
you own the game. just use a crack. that activation limit doesnt make any sense on steam, cause steam by itself is already DRM
using modified executables is against the Steam TOS...
That's only enforced for VAC enabled games. Obviously if you screw around with the exe for TF2 or something like that then you're asking for trouble. However there are plenty of people who run Steam games and use mods that modify the exe but don't play multiplayer and it's not an issue.
If the companies involved with putting the DRM on this game can't be bothered to remove it or assist legitimate owners who got locked out due to their DRM schemes then people who paid for the game have a right to be able to use the product they paid for.
You really shouldn't be trying to scare people who just want to access the game they paid for over something that in this case will never happen.
If TAGES is still there you should be able to find them.
