Error (6) Fix Tages (working) UPDATED!

Hi all, for all users who have this error you know that it is because Steam has removed the product from the store, I have also read that the GOG version is needed to repair it and it is not.

First download the game update from here:

http://support.atari.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/16/16/the-chronicles-of-riddick-dark-athena-101-patch

Install and continue.

To repair this error, we only need one file and delete 2.

We go to the game folder and delete the following files:

Go to System / Win32_x86:
Delete:

TagesClient.dat
TagesClient.exe

Then in google, search
THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK: ASSAULT ON DARK ATHENA V1.01 ALL NO-DVD [RELOADED] is just a file

dvm.dll

I can not have links here, once they have it, replace it and you're ready to play the game again from Steam.

Either they patched it or I just happened to get lucky with my STALKER steam overlay fix. But here's how I fixed it and it doesn't require any files, just install the game from steam and it works:

Find your steam folder and change Steam.exe compatibility to run as administrator.
Download and install the game
When you go to run it for the first time it wil ask you about admin privileges for setting up TAGES.
Just go through like you normally would. Type in key and activate.
Play the game and quit.
Now you can remove the administrator privilges for steam if you want.

That's all I had to do and it works fine. I think the problem is this TAGES installer doesn't properly trigger UAC and ask for proper elevated privileges so when it tries to install the DRM driver it fails invisibly and instead it just can't activate. It works fine for me now.

If at some point the TAGES servers go down and you can't do this, sure it'll be good to have the GOG fix but for people like me with Steam copy who don't want to deal with virus laden cracks this works just fine.

This worked for me too. Just change Steam to run as admin and load the game. After I played through the tutorial I quit. Set the Steam.exe to run as normal and now it works. Thank for the fix Kurai.

You're welcome jadyre glad it worked.

Happy to report that this still works :praisesun:

Shame on Valve, really, and yet another ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the infamy of DRM; but many thanks to people like OP for fighting the good fight.

Just a heads up: As of December 2018 the Atari link is dead, but you can still get the patch at The Patches Scrolls[www.patches-scrolls.com].

can confirm it still works nicely. Kinda stupid they'd cut it loose and not just remove the damned DRM themselves.. I laugh when they cry how "hard" it would be.. meanwhile, a couple of unpaid hackers have done all the work already.. so hard apparently.. I forgot how good the game could be, yet bad the game engine is.. ugh frame drops to 30 even on a modern high end system ffs..! lol

Thanks again tho! (mostly posting to be sure this stays at the top)

Can you confirm that NO-CD fix doesn't contain malware? I have a retail version and it keeps asking this damn activation code the now non-exsitent support should give, so my only chance now is that

I live in a third world country. Before buying games legally was an option down here, I played pirated games for a *very* long time; and I don't think I ever got an issue with viruses or malware of any kind. That popular first world idea that cracked software will set your computer on fire and rape your pets is blown way out of proportion. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, mind you; after all the sites where you go to look for this stuff are shady at best, but if it does happens it's way less frequent than you'd believe, especially if you're looking for a specific release from a known group.

The problem is that most antiviruses will freak out about such files and not only give you a positive but can even give you a name for a known virus, because the way a crack operates can closely resemble the work of it (after all, you're cutting open a file and modifying its basic contents). But like I said, personally I've never had an issue that could be traced to a cracked exe or a no-cd patch in quite a bunch of years.

Granted, it would be much preferrable to have an officially sanctioned fix for this problem, but that's DRM for you: Either take the risk of sailing the dark waters, or don't play the game at all, for all the publishers (and even the very people that sold you the game) care.

Eh, it just happened once with me, before GOG had Mafia on it I had a disc version that was missing a file for some reason, got the file and then I got some light virus, not heavy stuff just sometimes words get highlighted as links and so
Well wish me luck

By NO-CD fix you mean the "THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK: ASSAULT ON DARK ATHENA V1.01 ALL NO-DVD [RELOADED]"?

If that's the case the file is save to download and install into the game. If it weren't for this file I wouldn't have been able to play this game on steam.

Thank you for reuniting me with my dear game.

Thanks, but its frustrating to install a crack to play a purchased game.

I can not find the "THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK: ASSAULT ON DARK ATHENA V1.01 ALL NO-DVD [RELOADED]" file on google. All links to it appear to be dead :(

This worked for me as well: I just started Steam as an Administrator, without any further Patches/Cracks. This solution should be pinned
Papagenox May 27, 2020 @ 12:18am
Running Steam as administrator doesn't work for me. I entered the CD key correctly, and also the link to download the patch in the OP is dead now. So I guess I can't play the game I paid for.

Lovely.
