List Your Fav. Streets of Rage games...
Hello to all you SoR fans... I'm a massive fans of these games from my childhood, it would be great to chat and add some like minded people on stream... and maybe play some SoR.

Anyway, a bit of fun list which of the four you like best to lest best...

1. Streets of Rage 1 is the original and best... I think that the music is best of all the 4.
2. Street of Rage 3, I know it gets a lot of flack but I really like this one. great animation.
3. Streets of Rage 2, I know this is popular, and I love it too, It took out Adam thought and he was my fav in no1. BUT that said, great game.
4. Streets of Rage 4, Great looking nostalgic treat. Not all are done well... flashback remake. (Edit, having played No.4 more I've changed my mind and can't recommend, its good... okay... not great.)

1: SoREmake. Just no contest, this is THE love letter to the fans. All the nuts are tightened, the bolts secured, the polish applied, with all the cast, levels, and then some. It got even better with some truly inspiring fan-made levels too.
2: SoR4. Has some minor gripes, but once gotten over, it's everything a SoR game should be with a comic style that fits the mood perfectly. The fact it's lured in non-brawler fans as well is a sign of how well made it is.
3: SoR 2. What can be said that hasn't been said? Still, once REmake and 4 came along, it got bumped down from top tier to good.
4: SoR 1. More influential than good, honestly. It's still perfectly playable, but knowing the vast array of improvement it got over the years doesn't give it much staying power.

SoR 1 have the best fitting music, but fighting mechanic and graphics is poor.
SoR 2 have best visual, great music, but also there is an awful input lag about 4 frames, it's dissaster.
SoR 3 has experimental music: some i liked, some tracks i didn't; decent graphics, but characters kinda feels the same, cause they are all can run and roll.
For me - it's hard to go back to theese classics. There is SoRR, which is essentially work on bugs with ton's of new content.
So, there is 2 awesome games for me: SoRR and SoR 4. In both cases, the developers did a marvelous job.
ps I would really like it if Sega allowed the developers of the remake to release it on Steam and engage in its further support and development. I am ready to pay for it and support both the developers of the remake and the interest in the series for Sega.

SOR1 was crap compared to the others in the series. It was a prototype for 2. 2 Is the best offical one. I think I put in 1000+ hours in my life in that game since it came out.

So my order for official ones would be for me from best to worst

1. SoR 2 is my favourite, I grew up playing this game. Top notch soundtrack, great atmosphere and gameplay. i still play this, even 30 years later.

2. SoR 3 - Great sequel, maybe not as good as SoR 2, but still awesome game. I have such good memories playing this game in the 90s.

3. SoR 1 - The original. Rather boring gameplay to be honest but great tunes.

4. SoR Remake. Awesome love letter to SoR and SoR Fans. But because I don't have the power of nostalgia with this one, it takes the 4th place. Awesome game. Great gameplay (just like the originals) improved graphics, more levels, different routes. This is THE ultimate SoR experience and objectively the best game of the bunch.

5. SoR 4. No, not a bad game. But it's just plays bit too different to be as enjoyable as the older games in the series. Some odd gameplay choices (like removing run and dodge-roll) also, I am not too much fan of the combo-juggling it feels like it belongs to another game. Not a bad game. Awesome graphics, animation and some great tunes. But this just doesn't feel ike SoR much at times. Still, not a bad game but it just doesn't feel SoR enough. It lacks the grit and athmosphere of the older games.

I'd say all of them are equally enjoyable even today (at least for me). I can occasinally launch 1-3/Remake and have just as much fun as with 4. Although I'd say 2 became a little less relevant after Remake came out since it's basically SoR2 on steriods with lots of polish and extra content.

Basically, the order they came out is the order I prefer them. Never tried remake, but maybe I should.

I don't like the tendency of beat them all to try to become so close to fighting games, complete with combo, parries/counters, lot of difficulty to appeal to a kind of crowd I want no part of, and overall none of the actual fun and enjoyment that is the essence of beat them all. They did that with Double Dragon Neon, they did that Fight N' Rage, and now Street of Rage 4...

I play 4, and while I try to enjoy it, the fact is when I'm done with a session, I realise I didn't have fun. There are so many cheap shots and unfair things, there is the problem of having to focus on trying to get high combos to score(I know, you could very well forget about the score, but I'm trying to play the game as intended and get better at it), there are characters which are at such a disadvantage because despite being remade, they weren't remade cleverly and aren't adapted to the new format, there are combinaisons of enemies which are extremely nasty... Even on easy. I end up cursing, yelling, restarting levels to get a better start over and over... Maybe it's just me getting old. Maybe it's the nostalgia googles. I don't really know...

You know a simple thing I miss? It's very silly, but I miss the round shadows under the characters. This was very useful to judge where you were vertically and horizontally speaking relatively to others characters. Sure it was a graphical limitation of the time, but now everything is nice and beautiful, and somehow, it feels like the ergonomy was the one who got pummeled.

Well said. SoR 4 feels like a chore. You need to memorize every enemy, where they spawn etc. Some of the enemies have such annoying attacks. I've been able to beat the game on every difficulty, so it's not that I don't know how to play the game. But the enemy design is awful compared to older SoR games.

It's a good game, but it's not that much fun as the older titles unfortunately.

Maybe. Or even believable. However, if there were no old games, but suddenly a fourth appeared, which would be the first, would we have noticed it now, would we have waited 2 years after the announcement? (rhetorical)
3. Because I have replayed it many times with friends on very hard.
4. Because it turned out very well, although it was at least 10 years late.
1. Because I liked to play its alone sometimes; good music, but I did not get far. And then ('95-'00) there was no legend around this game, just cool street fights.
2. Because I don't remember it. Most likely, I saw it several times, but did not pay attention.

1- SOR 1. I could play this one endlessly. Best music by a milestone, simple gameplay, and easy to pick up for new people. Calling the police to do a "magic attack" like in Golden Axe is super satisfying. Yes, the gameplay is a bit repetitive, but I personally don't mind.

2- SOR 4. Despite some flaws, it's the best looking one. Gameplay wise is the best IMO. Music is... eeeh it's ok, nothing too great. The elevator music kicks ass tho. At times it feels a bit unfair and unforgiving, specially when you aim for those S-ranks and trying to keep a really long combo, however that's a challenge that always makes me want to keep coming back to this game. So a bit frustrating for veterans/completionists/masochists, but awesome for casuals.

3- SOR Remake. Even tho it's not an official game, it did many things right. A store system, character customization, good variety of characters, the option to change the enemies' names, or even try and make your own level (never got this to work tho)... however, I feel like it can be extremely unbalanced at some points. Some animations look kinda meh (Rudra, Electra, Adam... regarding enemies, the Trucker looks awful, like other custom enemies), and even if there are *some* completely new areas, most of them are just the same levels as in the original trilogy, even if there are some diverging paths. So not much variety in that aspect. Most music remixes are awesome, and that's about it. It's good, but not crazy good.

4- BK III. And I'm saying Bare Knuckle III because "Streets of Rage 3" is a complete downgrade from the japanese version. If you don't know about this, I suggest investigating via Google. Anyway, BK III is pretty fun, and the gameplay is smooth and fast-paced. Glad I can use specials without needing to sacrifice health. Even so, the music is kinda meh, the levels aren't as good looking as in the other games, and the only new addition to the cast was Dr. Zan, who always felt a bit weird to play as. Bonus points for secret characters like Roo, Shiva, and Ash. So it's a fun game but I can see why it's usually regarded as the worst. Do yourself a favor and play BKIII instead of SOR3, you'll have a better experience.

5- SOR 2. Nostalgia aside, I can say this is a good game. But as a Streets of Rage game, it's, in my opinion, the slowest (in terms of combos and level progression) and most frustrating out of all of them (Hardest/Mania). Combos, throws, blitz attacks... everything is sooo slow in this game, you feel like every enemy has the upper-hand on you because their speed is often superior to yours. Also, this game gave birth to a bunch of my most hated enemies in the SOR saga (Ninjas, Martial arts guys, the fricking kicking dudes, etc.) and some bosses I'll never enjoy playing against (Like Jet or Bear Jr.). It's a game full of noob traps too (Bikes coming out of fricking nowhere, dudes falling out the ceiling with a flying kick, etc.) It definitely looks better than the first and third game, but gameplay-wise I'll take any other SoR game any day. And the music is alright, better than the third one, but there's only a few memorable soundtracks.
