No cross platform (cross-play) online play ability.

The problems with cross platform games are that they require dedicated servers rather than (in this case) using the Steam servers for matchmaking. The dedicated servers will require additional maintenance costs unlike the Steam ones. Also once there are too few players to warrant the server costs then the servers will be shut down so no online play at all. Unlike when using the Steam servers where they will stay up (as long as Steam is still a thing anyway).

It is a good thing in the short term but when the servers go down then so does any online functionality.

If that were the only issue then all games would have cross platform across pc, Switch and Xbox.
