Xbox/PC Game Pass vs Steam

What exactly is the difference between the versions? Can Steam users play with game with PC Game Pass users? I just saw an update posted on Discord about an upcoming patch for Game Pass users

For those who didn't know, the next patch coming soon on Xbox One/Game Pass PC will fix:

[+] Combo counter system
[+] Crash when launching the game on Game Pass PC
[+] Add the advanced graphic settings that are currently missing on Xbox One/Game Pass PC.
[+] Fix some other minor issues

Is this making the game easier or harder before these fixes?

I think we have had all those since day 1 so no way to answer for me.

I am even playing it on Linux.

Apparently it's more difficult because certain combos straight up don't even work in the build that they use. The timer is also busted so combos drop way quicker than they do in every other version.

FINALLY adding those graphics options! I was SUPER pissed that they were left out for no reason.

I think another quirk is that the MS Store version uses Direct X while the Steam version uses OpenGL. Which implies that the MS Store version is a PC port of the X Box port of the early build of the PC version. Talk about convoluted.

MS PC players can also play with xbox players giving them more range of players for online. On top of that, PC players who own an Xbox can also play the same game and continue from their Xbox without having to purchase a second copy. A lot of MS games do this is it's actually a good idea.

Damn, that's awesome. I didn't know that. I guess that explains why I've never had an issue finding any kind of game I wanted to join. There's always been a lot to choose from. Now I'm going to go play the game on PC with my friend that is PC only, since I can pick up right where I left off from my time on the Xbox with all my progress and unlocked characters.

That is correct. I've been playing State of Decay 2 on PC and when I feel like chilling on the sofa, I can move to the Xbox and continue off.

Streets of Rage 4 went straight to Xbox Game Pass on launch day, and it’s available on both the Xbox One and PC versions of the service. Because of that, Xbox One and PC players can play Streets of Rage 4 together if they’re both using Game Pass, and cloud saves are supported across both platforms. This caveat doesn’t apply to the Steam version of the game on PC, and of course, it still leaves PS4 and Switch players without any cross-platform options.
