Or maybe it will, if they make the barbarian dude wear next to nothing as well. Who knows...?
In any case, if they so make a new GA. Hopefully they add the panther guy from the third game, he was fun to use.
I think the challenge would be in how to differentiate it from SoR at a mechanical level. I've a notion of how I'd want it to be; slower, more visceral, less about combos than highly committal, well-considered strikes. Something less combo fightery, more like Samurai Shodown or Bushido Blade. But how you accomplish that in a beat 'em up, I have no clue; I've never played a beat 'em up that felt like that.
Yet that's precisely how I think it should feel. Golden Axe always felt less flashy than brutal. More Conan the Barbarian than Wuxia, which is what I fear trying to slap SoR4's gameplay onto Golden Axe would accomplish. Nevertheless, with SoR4, I think they've earned the shot at it, if they decide to take it. And I sure hope they do!
Golden Axe, Alien Soldier, Comix Zone, etc.
Is anything else in the works or are we just speculating?
dotemu have several games in the works, off the top of my head TMNT, Metal Slug Tactics, Windjammers 2, so I guess they are pretty busy for now.
Not sure about Guard Crush, Lizardcube tho.
They're making a TMNT? Nice... Hope it's something like Turtles in Time beat em up. One of my favs of all time.
Edit: Decided to google, and yah, can't wait for that.
*stares at Dead or Alive, Senran Kagura, Akiba's Trip, SNK Heroines, and the deluge of fanservice-y games which come out on Steam on a daily basis*
Oh yeah... having Tyris Flare with that look would never be done these days. We live in an era where fanservice just does not exist at all. Oh, the humanity.
Did you notice the sarcasm? Because I meant it.
Which he did in the original too? Dude wore a loincloth and some boots, that was it. Golden Axe was one of the rare games where the guy wore about as much as the woman.
But yeah, I'd be all for a new Golden Axe, especially if it's done by this crew. Hell, after SR4 I'm all for pretty much anything they put out.
Your examples are as pathetic as your sarcasm. Senran Kagura and Snk Heroines and all other games are built on what you just said, they're straight up "fan-service" to a high degree before anything else. Golden Axe is not focused on just that. When the average person thinks of Senran Kagura or SNK Heroines, what is the first thing they bring up? The fighting? Give me a break.
Games like those don't advertise themselves and try attract fans beyond those that are interested in fan-service, DoA6 tried and failed miserably.
Now if you take a game that advertises itself as a beat-em-up or an action-adventure game; this can attract a plethora of other fans that are into those well-known genres. They will be expecting solely that and will then complain about that this so called "action game" has a girl running around in a bikini rather than something a bit more sensible. This has been proven in a number of games a dozen times more than your terrible examples.
Also fyi, one of them (DoA6) had to deal with that mess in the beginning and it caused lots of complications in development whether they would go with fan service or not and it affected their sales. So if you're gonna use examples don't make the only well-known IP you write be something that has been slammed left and right by both critics and fans.
I don't mind Tyris looking the way she does, hell I welcome her sexy look. I just don't want a potential GA game; a series we all have fond memories about to be brought down by conflicting mindsets when they advertise themselves as a beat-em up game.
