The removal of dash and dodge rolls makes the game less fun.
Everyone is posting thesis length analyses on the pros and cons of changes to Streets 4 vs the older games, and this is something that always comes up. People debate one way or the other based mostly on challenge and adherence to the old games' mechanics. I'm going to go more basic, and instead of arguing on logic, I'm gonna speak my feelings:

I would have more fun playing Streets of Rage 4 if I could dash with every character.
I would have more fun playing Streets of Rage 4 if I could dodge with every character.

I just played 3 and 4 back to back for awhile. They are ALMOST the same experience (in a good way), but I was having more fun in 3 simply because I could zip around, throwing enemies and plowing into them right as they got up, or rolling out of one enemy's attack range and coming up right behind someone else.

This isn't about balance, or challenge, or any of that. I'd just have more fun playing the game if I were more mobile.

It's ok if you disagree!

i agree that everyone should be able to run (at different speeds), but im strongly against rolling. rolling was such a weird and broken mechanic, that made the game A LOT easier.

The dash/ dodge is limited to SOR3 if you haven't unlocked. They followed exactly the mechanics within each series. Except in SOR3 the star move is actually the 3 star > > punch.
The damage output is higher for SOR4 characters but it would be great if they could dash/ roll as well. When I used SOR3 characters for mania, the stages were much easier to manage.

mechanics can be improved how can the most basic concept go over you heads

This is honestly the reason I haven't bought this yet. Atleast from the roster you start with, you can only ru/dash with Blaze? I like Blaze but I want to dash with everyone. I have been playing FIght'n'Rage a lot and got used to how fast and mobile I was.

I think the problem is that they wanted Alex to be the most like the original.

Yeah... SoR4 *is* a fun game, but everyone moves 10% slower than I'd like. It's juuuust a little too slow. It's fine, you get used to it. But I'd still like to be faster.

That's fair. You could kinda spam it to break enemies. Maybe certain enemy types could counter your rolls, like if you rolled into them you'd immediately be grabbed or something.

The reason I like it so much is because I can move up and down faster, mainly. I use it more for simple positioning rather than a dodge.

I respect your opinion. I'm one of majority people like this design choice with no run or roll. But seems many people want run and roll stuff, I can recommend the game called "The TakeOver" which also inspired SOR beat em up game too. Try go check that out and give that dev some love.

I agree. This is the main reason why I just use SOR3 Skate now. Much more fun just running around headbutting enemies then going into his special. Hell all the SOR3 characters to me is the way to go in order to have the most fun in this game. I find it boring playing anyone else now although SOR4 Adam Hunter is cool with Cherry being ok but again that's due to Adam have a dash and Cherry being able to run. Hopefully they somehow add the ability for everyone to run but I doubt that :steamsad:

But that's exactly what they did.

They removed the spammable dodge that wasn't fun and replaced it with the new dodge mechanic (iframes on Special Attack, and the ability to regenerate the life cost of special attacks) that is fun and interesting.

You now can't just spam dodge - you need to use it properly, and it has a cost; but it's a cost that you can recover by playing well.

The game mechanics in the game are the same as in SoR 2 - the best game in the series and the most rated beat'em up in general, what could be a complaint? Thus, the characters are more individual and interesting to play. Leave the run, roll etc for sor5.

I'd be cool with that. I hope we get one!

adam can dash, cherry can run, the rest of the sor 4 characters only walk.

I understand the feelings of everyone here, thos who are Pro and Con the roll and dash mech. But sorry we can not deny, we need Dash and Roll , its a must for every single one character on SOR4. All MANIA players are missing this feature i guess. Players Newcomers, Easy Mode and Normal Mode maybe do not miss Dash and Roll but those MANIA players and the veterans for sure know what they lost....

I can get used to no dash but it really sucks not having it. Roll was strange and very broken. But if they added roll and balanced it a little it might be fine. We really need dash though!
