Strategy for Max boss ?
Impossible to grab, impossible to tackle down, very difficult to dodge, I'm hitting a wall, here.
I just can't understand how to defeat this boss "the regular way".

So I passed it "brute force" in local coop, of course, with additionnal lives and just masturbating the specials & stars moves without even looking at the screen, until he's down for the count.
But I'm not satisfied by that, and would like to know the real refined way to do it in honorable 1vs1.

You got a strategy to share ?

If you are caught shake him with mashing your buttons and d-pad, he will let you free without damage.
- He does his dropkick when you are too far. It is easy to avoid anyway.
- The spinning attack in phase 1 has so little range that you can hit him if you position yourself correctly. The spinning attack in phase 2 is easy to avoid.
- The charge attack is telegraphed. Get yourself in the same vertical axis at a safe distance. Repeat for all the three attacks. If you are feeling beautiful today you can try to jump him with an empty jump.

Difficult to dodge? He has all of four moves. Two of which you dodge by keeping your distance and moving up/down, one you dodge by simply keeping your distance, and the last being his grab where you just button mash.

I honestly can't fathom where the difficult is supposed to be. Just dodge his moves and hit him in between, he's by far the least dynamic and most predictable boss, he has no curveballs whatsoever.

Jump straight up to the air to avoid his shoulder charge or use defensive special. If he grabs you mash buttons until break free.

When he attacks use either neutral jump or simply Y-move away from him.
You can also use neutral special when you feel you don't have enough time to move away from him.
Hey There! May 9, 2020 @ 10:11am
yea this fight is far from hard, just keep your distance when he is about to take.. he has a long wind up before he attacks which gives u enough time to move
If you aren't S ranking you can straight up trade blows with him and you'll still win even on mania. Just do some combos mixed up with blitz when's he's charging up. The only thing you need to do is escape his grab to win easy.

Tried that for 5 runs in normal, with Axel (combo + blitz + specials), and 3 runs with Floyd.
Never got him down 2/3 of his life before losing my own 3 lives, lol.

But that was because mashing buttons weren't enough to escape his grabs, for me.

Now I've found a way to escape those, so it's much more doable indeed!
Thanks for sharing, though! Appreciated ;)

Mashing buttons didn't work, for me, to escape his grabs.
And somehow he constantly went for those grabs, on my runs.
So, yeah, avoiding the rest was clearly not enough, as he munched through my 3 lives with just a few "unavoidable" grabs in barely a minute of fight.

But now I trained a bit with those "grab escapes", seeing a few videos where people do escape those indeed.
And d-pad was the way : it works SO MUCH better than mashing buttons, for me!

Now, with those grabs out of the way, for sure Max becomes very doable, lol! xD
(especially with those additionnal tips you provided)

Thanks for sharing!
