1.Much better level design: Since in 2D SOR games you have to always move to the right side of the screen.
2.Much longer gameplay : Since when they are making it 2D, I'm pretty sure it can easily be beaten in few hours similar to older SOR games. By making it 3D they can offer even more content to the players.
3.More fun combat: 2D beat em up games have already reached their prime. There is no way to improve them(Make them better) from the way they were in the 16 bit era.
By making it 3D they can at least experiment and make a new SOR game with new mechanics that hasn't been done before.
2) You don't seem to understand how arcade games were made for... you're supposed to replay the game for the hi-score, it's not a RPG
3) The combat is fun because it was simple, adding more complex mechanic may make things confusing, less is more.
Silly me.
I haven't heard that name before.
You're entitled to your opinion, but I don't think something being 3D automatically means its superior to its 2D equivalent in anything except spatial movement.
There are objectively more great 2D game than good 3D ones...
I mean look at Sonic Mania compared to Sonic Forces, it is a perfect exemple of Sega not being able to make good 3D games
I would like to see a good 3d streets of rage game some day, maybe if SOR4 does well as a franchise reboot, who knows?
Since Capcom is capable of making 3D games with great combat.(Devil May Cry 3,4 and 5 )
meaning when they took Street fighter to 3d,( SFIV) it was about as faithful to the look and feel of 2d SFII as you could hope for, perfect? not at all no, but perfection is not a realistic expectation is it.
Anyway, I think its better developers are no longer just making 3d games for sake of making 3d games (e.g because its pretty) prefer they choose 2d or 3d based on other qualifiers, in the case of SOR there is no real need for it unless you are overhauling the game in to something very different.
