Hard Reset: Beginners Guide
I am really enjoying Hard Reset, however I am pretty terrible at the game. My main issue is knowing what to spend my points on at the upgrade station. I decided create a thread to obtain suggestions on the best builds to get through the game. Any help will be appreciated.

Here are a few questions that I would love to have answered:
1. Is it better to start on an easier difficulty and than start a New Game + on a higher difficulty level?
2. What starting gun is better? Is there even a difference between the guns?
3. Is it better to focus on the weapons or on the character?
4.Is it better to have many guns or just a few upgraded guns?
5.Do the secondary fire modes hold any benefits?

Thanks again for any feedback!

1. I made my first playthrough on normal, I found it the right amount of challenging, unless you are Serious Sam/Painkiller veteran I suggest playing on normal, you can lower the difficulty at any time either way.
2. It is, I played through the game mostly with the combination of grenade launcher (gravity greneda + ordinary) and railgun
3. At first I think you can easily upgrade your character a bit, to make it a bit tougher but you'll notice that guns without upgrades become useless against hordes of enemies quite soon, I suggest you try to evenly upgrade guns and character, but it also depends on how much nano you'll find. Somewhere around the half of the extended edition I already had everything upgraded (that I cared for)
4. see 2), I suggest upgrading railgun and grenade launcher, I never even tried proximity mines and mortar, once I got those two I also never used the first two modes on both guns
5. yes they do, especially gravity grenades are awesome, fire one into the horde and then follow with ordinary grenade, you'll get rid of multiple enemies easily, RPG tracer is also usefull

Have fun ;)

Once you figure out that most secondary fire mods have crowd control effect you will start having a much easier time destroying everything in your path.

there are many combos that work well, my fav is the grenade launcher + electric mortar.

between gravity grenades and stasis grenades you can keep almost anything bunched up together and frozen for mass kills.

the crowd control mechanics really made this game for me, its very satisfying pulling off a combo with multiple switches

If I can be a little brazen, I recommend this guide to help you with getting enough N.A.N.O.s for a lot of upgrades. If you get them all, you will be able to buy upgrades a lot earlier, making the game easier.

I know this thread is old now, but I started playing Hard Reset again after having stopped several months ago. My favourite weapon in the game is probably the Mortar since the secondary weapon provides amazing crowd control. The primary function also packs a significant punch against most enemies, especially the smaller swarming types and the annoying robots with the humanoid heads. You can combine the secondary of the Mortar with a good regular weapon like the shotgun or RPG. Crowd controlling a tough enemy or a group of enemies and then hitting them with your other weapon can be devastating.

Other good weapons are the upgraded Rail Gun and the Smart Gun, which can be very useful in certain types of situations.

Definitely learn to use crowd control and swap out weapons constantly depending on the situations. That's one of the things that I find so fun with this game.

I love just upgrading the basic weapon modes, with increased projectile speed and damage (or something along those lines).
It makes taking out the little annoying buggers much easier.
Of course ammo upgrades help a lot too. You really need your basic modes to be as effective as possible early on.

Of course the grenades and their upgrades are crucial soon on in the game.

Whatever a person does, don't buy the radar upgrades until the very very last thing, and you have nothing else available to buy.
They will not help you beat the baddies, and that's really what matters.

I was using mostly mortar for those annoying critters and the rocketlauncher for the gorilla types. Flying enemies from the expansion and a certain boss was pretty easy with the smart gun. If I went out of rockets for normal enemies I stuck to my railgun. Did my first playthrough on hard and it was pretty rough. I wouldn't suggest playing on hard for the first time. Except you like some replaying of encounters until you get your strategy for the specific areas right. As Plumb_Drumb said, don't upgrade radar. They are all around you, there is no need for a radar ^^

If you are playing on Hard mode for your first try (like me) I recommend Kleenex.
There will be tears. :D

Seriously, the DLC levels on Hard are making my fists bleed. From bashing into my keyboard. I've been stuck on one fight for about 90 minutes now. Anger slowly transforming into cold rage. These robots are seriously going to eat grenade.

The DLC really kicks up the insanity.
