thanks for the transparency knowing that unity is gonna fully move to esc in the future i think its a solid option to consider but whatever you choose nobody is gonna say no more perf

Devblog of Factorio might give some nice ideas too. They were very transparent on what kind of challanges they had and how they tackled them.
Also Cofee Stain were very open on some of the Stuff with Satisfactory.
Like long belts don't need to be separated instances of objects when the player is not around and could modify them. So for game logic could replace long belts with represantating continous objects instead of a large amount of one block items.
Which would also make sense to add to the game anyways. Currently you have one block pipes and belts. But for long lines you could add long variants. Maybe 5, 10, 25 block long belt and pipe obejcts that we can put down. Reduces the ingame objects a lot and also is a QOL improvement for players since they can build long lines faster that way.

I don't think this will help, and this is not what Satisfactory devs did. They don't merge remote belts into a single object, even though they do merge belts if you add and remove a splitter at a seam. What they do is quite interesting. They treat multiple belt pieces internally as a single continuous belt (no matter far away from you or right next to you). This is very convenient when you need to transfer items from point A to point B at a high speed in high amounts. Previously, resources were transferred from each piece of a belt to the next separately. As in, each had its own separate inventory and items moved from one to another. To say that's suboptimal is to say nothing. :)

I suspect here something like this might be used already, since transferring items from each individual piece to each individual piece should take a lot of CPU resources. And yet the game runs relatively ok. We don't have insanely fast belts, though, so it's hard to tell is this a problem here.

I love this! It was so discouraging, the first time I went through the trouble of making a big fancy factory with decorations and all, only to come back later and find it could barely load :( Very very exciting news!

Everybody but a few loud modders already hated that about Factorio.
Those dumb Friday facts.
Pump out content, I do not care for the system behind it.

I will admit it's fun watching these structures "rebuild" themselves while being loaded, but this is quite an improvement! I hope it works out in the end. I imagine you guys are already taking advantage of the awesome power of instancing. Keep up the great work, I look forward to the next iteration you guys give us!

I love those sort of dev logs.
Thanks a lot for sharing this.

Wrong. :clown_ooo:

You don't care, but plenty of people do.
In fact, despite reading over 200 factorio Friday facts, you are the first one that I come across that complains about it.
If anything, more game developers should follow wube's example.

It would make customers more understanding of delays, bring more people into modding, give greater transparency to potential customers, hopefully prevent scams like Star citizen from taking off and sucking away all the goodwill people have toward indie studios.

Factorio is the gold standard, and in my opinion so are the FFF.
It's something to imitate, not avoid.

Love how you think the world revolves around you and if YOU have an opinion then EVERYBODY 'except a few loud modders' hated them. The reality is the MAJORITY of people appreciated the Friday Facts. Learn the world doesn't revolve around you my friend.
