Some players, including myself, suggested to make direction of both shafts configurable, so the elevator is more efficient and versatile.
Freight elevators do dig. However, they won't do so if there is an ore patch, a plant or a boulder in the way. These still need to be removed by hand.
Same reason why belts and passenger elevator require no power.
I use the Player Elevator to get down to the node/drill point level. Bomb out the area, use power floors to level the area.
Once I have that done, I move the player elevator to a better position. Near the drill point, and have it dig up.
I then place the bottom half of the freight elevator. Then go up top in the player elevator to place the top of the freight elevator.
If you don’t know the player elevator, has a High Voltage plug on the side to transfer power to underground floors
Drop a transformer, for the loaders and attach power cable to the ore vein miner.
This is exactly how I've been doing it, but today I have decided I don't like seeing multiple low voltage systems on my grid display. It annoys me and it isn't like I have the ability to label them or anything, therefore I don't even know which one is for which area. So I modified my power network to all be on the same low voltage grid and the only thing poles are ran for are pumps/equipment that requires high voltage.
I just run a line of foundations down vertically next to the freight elevator on all of them now to connect the power.
Still constrained to one yellow belt, which js hilarious given the massive size and number of slots on the elevator.
It’s like they designed it to be infinite throughout then decided to change that at the last minute without changing the graphics or size.
I would agree they need a rework for sure. Setting up 4-6 freight elevators around one resource is a pain when you are trying to get 4-6 yellow belts worth of resources out of it because of how huge they are, which seems to not be logical at all as the size serves no purpose.
I would like to see a rework of the elevators to either be like Satisfactory has or something like you said, infinite speed and therefore only need one freight elevator for a resource no matter how many belts you add to it. I don't know. In the end the simplest solution really is to do something similar to Satisfactory and that would serve the purpose just fine. Reduce the size of elevators to something reasonable. One voxel block in size and treated as normal belts except vertical would be fine. Add one for red belt speed to go with that. Done. Could even keep the top/bottom and dig ability as it is and reduce it to one voxel block size. Top and bottom could still support 4 inputs/outputs each.
Even if they did that and didn't add the red belt version, it would be better in my opinion. But honestly, what is the point of keeping vertical belts locked behind later research? They should be available early to encourage the building of vertical factories and to pull the resources out of the ground.
I support the need for a rework of freight elevators for sure. I don't think they should require power though. If I can put belts horizontally across the world for miles without power, why would it take power to move the same resources vertically?
Yeah, something like that would be great:
- reduce size
- add a red elevator
Alternative:
Make only one elevator available at tier 2 and let it have infinite speed,
But let it also be smaller. Then the upgraded ones are progressively larger.
