Is there a way to automate this? I'm really quite sick of manually drilling it up to make concrete, but putting a miner near it tells me there's nothing in range....

You have to unlock the scan for Mineral Rock for the Mining drones to "See" it I guess

I have that ... that's how I found the stupid stuff to begin with ...

i dug straight down to it, cleared the top layer of dirt off it, then cleared off an area for the bot miner underground in the cave i created, then i drill straight down next to it and lay down the building (power blocks) vertically so it gets power, then i used the angle conveyors and dug a diagonal shaft to bring up the mineral to the surface. only dug what i needed to and a good starting for the miner bots to work.
