Foundry hates Verticality?
My first thought when I saw a voxel based factory game was "towering industrial buildings". But it feels like Foundry really doesn't want me to go vertical at all.

Having the only way to point conveyors up be a ramp and not an elevator like in Satisfactory in a voxel based game feels cruel at best and criminal at worst. It's a real shame but I will continue what I do and just hope the devs will come up with a better solution soon.

Hi Jezuz
There are freight elevators but... I'm afraid to say... they are woefully inadequate and not fit for purpose. The tier 1 elevators can only move 320 items per minute no matter how many belt supply it and the tier 2 do 640 which is again only 1 belts worth over all connections. I use belt spirals for my vertosity. It works well and looks great!

I use belt spirals as well but it is tiring me out to the point where i dont want to deal with them anymore.

Yeah, for the footprint they take up, freight elevators should have at least 2-3x the current throughput. Between them and the late game cargo buildings, it feels like there's a lot of stuff which is big for the sake of being big because the devs think that adds scale to the game.

Also, zigzags are a bit less annoying to build than tight spirals are, but it's still a pain getting multiple belts of stuff up a big elevation change, I tend to just try and figure out what height things need to end up at and do one long elevated ramp up from the origin point, but if you're trying to build vertically within your factory that doesn't help much. At least space is basically infinite and you can cram a lot of stuff sideways with the 3-lane loaders.

Just build everything far away and use simple sloped conveyors.
This is a total shame, but currently it is what it is.

Tier 1 elevators can carry up 640 items per minute if you utilise both shafts in both directions. Its footprint is 3x4 whereas 4 conveyor spirals with the same throughput would take at least 8x4. So elevators are fully fit for their purpose and it's not like the building space is limited even in case of using just a single shaft.

How often are you sending items in both directions continually? The main use case for freight elevators is shipping ore up from deep deposits, and then the throughput is only equal to a single belt of the equivalent tier. And if you want to use them for moving intermediate products around a vertical factory, forget about it.

Even in case of bringing ore to the surface, throughput is still equal to two - not one - belts of the same tier. And multiple elevators are super quick and easy to build.

When you're making intermediates in a vertical factory, you always bring some mats in and others out. Thus making this scenario perfect for sending items in both directions continually.

before freight elevators, i solved this with automating ramps and carrying a couple hundred at all times. never tried to do spirals, too tedius. just long switchbacks.

I've gotten to the point I can do some spirals pretty easy. I actually use a combination of all 3 (spirals, elevators and switchbacks). Just depends on my mood and if I plan to scrap the build not too far down the road.

I always use two belt spirals, takes up less room and works fine. Is there a blueprint copy paste function? - if so then, even better! spriral-away. The elevators are a bit pump. Id prefer the astrocolony vacum tube approach in a single cube volume. You can also build vertically with Y for a tower and work around it easier. Though jet packs solve all these issues in my mind.

Two belt spirals - 4x4 footprint at minimum. Elevator - 3x4 footprint. Which one is smaller?

Elevators, cargo ships.. it's all there for verticality.
You just have to science it.

The elevator also needs loaders.

I started to build multiple elevators next to each other, spiral building is anoying :( I think the throughput should be much more then just one belt (even that can have empty space if you not fill from all sides continiously)
