Hand scanning vs Long range Scanner
At distance eg: 2+Km, the long-range scanner took ages to build (like over an hour?) - it's so expensive! I think it might have been quicker & far cheaper to fly around with hand-scanning the same area that the long-range-scanner does over a much longer time-frame plus the build time.
So I think the Long range scanner is far too expensive for its purpose.

Nah, I automated construction mats, and once done, while it was scanning for ore, I was building out my factory.

Plus you can tear it down and rebuild somewhere else to scan more area, at little to no additional cost but the tear down/rebuild time

I think the long-range scanner is making the save-game smaller compared to using the hand-scanner. The hand-scanner forcing the world-generator to generate all these cells to display it in the map. The long-range scanner only shows the resources spots but not the landscape.

And 6400 x 6400 (2 x 100 x 32) tiles is a gigantic piece of map.

But of course I can be wrong here. Perhaps a dev wants to comment on this.
