Bedrock is at height 0, so height 1 is the lowest you can go. And elevator only goes to 253 (meaning the top is at 256) iirc
Thanks!
Thanks, good to know.
Although this was before the recent patch. I haven't tried getting that high again. Currently busy digging a tunnel, so can't check right now.
EDIT:
Using jetpack, I can get to 257. Using an exploit/bug I got to 508.
The exploit/bug was getting myself on top of a drone that is heading to the space station. That took me up to 508.
My jet pack let's me get to 270
But you can't build past 255 (the top of any building can't past it.)
Even though the Elevator can be set to 253, you have set to 252.
Since the largest non-modular machine is 12 meters tall, you last foundation shouldn't be higher then 242.
When I did it I think it was about the 245 mark.

Ok, elevator speed and digging speed makes more sense then. In Fortresscraft evolved you can dig much deeper. Also Foundry is a bit like Factorio in that the more you explore the more lag you get. So it's probably better to not explore much if you want good fps. Still it has much less lag this far than Satisfactory and Factorio when building a mega factory. And the save time is 1 second at endgame.
Tested by traveling ~130k blocks out (game hung on trying to save at 128k+) and separately exploring an area ~20k by 5k.
This works out to roughly 100k chunks or an area 10k blocks on a side.
