Recipe question
Technum rods from level 1 to level 2 - how does it work? Research has been completed but the display in the smelter remains at level 1. The same with the others.

You have to use a crusher to crush the ore and make it better, then you will get 3 per time instead of 1 per time. So look in the crusher for the technum and other ore to be crushed and refinded.

What you will want to do is instead of placing the ore rubble directly into the smelter, put it into a crusher first to make ore, then into the smelter.

Wow, that was a little poorly thought out (too complicated) - something like that should be implemented more simply. - Now I have 2 choices: either I leave it like that and forego more parts or I "have to" tear everything down and rebuild it. Thanks for the tip

First factory game? Get used to tearing things down as you get more technology.

That's usually how factory games are. Especially your first run-through. I have rebuild a couple times already. Plus have all my mini bases. Just how it goes. Happy gaming.

Complexity in the name of better input:output ratios is often how factory games go. They don't just give you better output, you gotta work for it

Base recipe ore:plate/rod ratio is 1:1. This upgrade is 1:1.5 with the crusher as an extra step. If you think this is bad wait until you see the endgame 1:3 setup.

In the alpha it was even better. There was a 2nd refinement of ore to pure ore.

EDIT: A welcome relieve between 1st refinement and the endgame-setup I actually miss. Endgame-setups are so huge and complex and costly. And there is a phase before that were you have actually material issues this 2nd refinement perfectly covered.

No, I play a lot of games that have to do with automation (Icarus, Satisfactory, Techtonica...etc...)

just build a new... map's infinite so don't build cramped, give everything tons of space for expansion and automate your building platforms and explosives early on.

I have ~100x200m area right at the beginning of my main bus dedicated for crushing and smelting columns that should scale all the way to lvl 3 belts and when I get my cargo planes, i'll be just tearing up my direct feeds from ore patches and placing down the airfields to input ore into my main base without need to tear up EVERYTHING.

Plan forward, map's infinite... go at it! :)
