Other viewing perspectives - Top Down or 3rd person with zoom? [first person = nausea]
Title says it all really;
I tried looking for topics etc and didnt find much other than a few comments on changing the players view point / view angle for a 3rd person view, a top down view, or hybrid with zooming.

The game isnt competitive so i cant see why itd be deemed as an unfair advantage.

Those views would also make it much easier to see a bigger picture and scope of how things are laid out where as the current view felt more tedious to line stuff up etc.

For me, its hard to play or even watch others play things in this perspective especially when steps up and down are very 'chunky'.. like minecraft for example (as Foundry is also blocky terrain) when you pop up and down in elevation it is not smooth even with motion blur off and tweaking FOV it is painful for my eyes. I can get slightly further in playtime with Satisfactory as at least the terrain is smooth and more natural or predictive.. but still eventually it just hurts my eyes regardless of settings.

for me to play this or suggest to friends id want a toggle to 3rd person and being able to zoom out a lot (AND still need that step up/down clunkyness to be smoothed) Similar to Dyson Sphere Program and/or a top down view more like Factorio. I understand there will be some more cave dwelling opportunities so allowing a toggle would help at least reduce the time spent in a less-desirable perspective.

I love this genre, and the game looks really interesting… But I also get nausea from first person views. Can’t play satisfactory at all but addicted to Dyson sphere program. A top-down view would be amazing.

yeah when i seen screens of the game i thought i was sold till i watch some gameplay not playing a building game in first person
if they add a over the top isometric view from a birds eye i would buy in a heart beat

We have tried this and it unfortunately didn't work. The game is fundamentally designed for first person and too many mechanics are either unusable or at least very cumbersome in third person. A good example are the screen panels on all the machines.

It doesn't mean all those cases are unsolvable, but we don't have the resources to slow down development to make most features work with two very different camera perspectives. Maybe we revisit it once the game is closer to 1.0, but as for now it is not planned.

well I am glad its 1st person and not 3rd person I like to be immersed in the game and 1st person is the view for me especially for this type of game.

I would’nt mind a 3rd person view, but why top down?

Just a FYi, Satisfactory had a 3rd person at one time till Update 2, not sure why they took it out. But any way if you want that view with satisfactory there is a mod that will do it. My daughter won't play a game with out 3td person, i can use both views so no mater to me. I be buying Foundry as soon as its out. ------ I have over 4000 hours in satisfactory :)

It's sad to see that devs/studios still think "We're making a game with genre XYZ. Our game has to stick to the usual genre standard decisions. Third person view? Never! Everyone else only makes first person in this genre! " It's a shame, another "factory" game that I can't play. Best of luck for the release! PS: It's no attack, it's only my opinion

Came here looking for this, this game use to have 3rd person before it came to steam (itch.io supporter) so was disappointed to see that they removed it. I get motion sickness in first person if playing for longer periods so may have to pass for the moment till a mod comes along or they re-implement it.

so make it toggleable. first person for what really needs it, third person for accessibility

I think the jetpack is the solution for you seeing an overview of what your doing. I like the first person to get immersed in the factory building but yes sometimes it can be a little hard to plan things out.

An overhead view for item placement and I would be happy enough.

jetpack is basically this. easy to tunnel vision it in tier 3 and get it asap.

overhead vertical view doesn't make sense in a 3D game

Personally, I agree some kind of top down view better than the existing map would be very helpful. It doesn't even need to be a playable view. But it would be helpful for planning things out, figuring out what is jammed and where, etc. Just seeing the icon of what is being manufactured in a particular assembler, crusher, etc. (i.e. alt mode in factorio) would be useful in a top down view.

As it stands I make heavy use of a feature I thought initially was next to worthless but I now consider absolutely essential. Specifically, I make heavy use of signs.
