2) kill the adds (the blue and red floating golems), one type will give a 0cost strength card that tripples guard on a target. the other will give a 0 cost strength card that does a little damage after removing ALL defensive buffs (so avert, guard and thorns all gone for free). additionally if you kill them off it will prevent the boss from fusing with them to gain extra abilities (such as self healing)
3) get some armour....... its really just that useful for soaking hits. if your getting hit by three attacks of 20dmg each you would need 60 guard to defend against all of it or if you have two armour and 20 guard you would block all of it (the armour route would likely cost fewer cards and armour doesnt fall off unless a stack is consumed from being hit so it can be built in advance of being in a defensive position)
4) try to find a way to divide the battle. you can often keep all your characters to the top or bottom row with ease which will keep you out of range of approximatly half the incomming attacks as well as making it easier to set one character to soak attacks while they have guard + armour or at least solid guard
