Getting stuck on a brawler - FIXED
*This problem appears to be fixed!

So people have reported that they've gotten stuck on a brawler. From the sounds of things, it goes down like this:

1. Fight to engage with a brawler.
2. Brawler fight starts.
3. All inputs, mouse or controller fail.
4. No way to input commands into the game and there the first brawler bar that comes down the screen simply moves to the bottom of the screen, the player takes a hit, and this repeats until the player is dead.

*Can you press into the menu or options or does other buttons on the controller or keyboard work during this bug I wonder?

It appears to happen on the very first brawler they encounter.

But like very first? Or maybe the second?

I ask because the very first brawler in the game is special. It has tutorial learning stuff attached to it. This special brawler is built in such a way that the actual first brawler bar you ever fight will never touch the ground. So I'm thinking perhaps its the first brawler you fight after that guy.

This appears to be rare because we've never seen or encountered it.

If there's screenshots, videos, or just any more details that would be a big help to us. It's a very baffling but deadly little bug.

Also, I know you're all very busy and the last thing you want to do is fumble around with some terrible bug, so I have to write you all and say we really do appreciate your help with this.

I've just hit this bug - it was literally the first brawler encountered. I hit backspace to restart the level and that worked, so it's not like ANY input doesn't work. I then hit ALT-F4 to quit and come here to reply. For ref, I'm using mouse with the game controller (official XBox One pad) plugged in - I'll go try it again with the pad unplugged.

OK, same thing happened again, and I captured a video:

Once the brawler comes in, I can't interact with it. Also, Escape doesn't work to bring up the menu. Backspace still works to offer me a restart, and I can use the mouse to click the menu and option buttons at the bottom.

I've not changed the options much from the default, other than the adjust the sound volume and resolution, and also turn off the gamepad detection (as I prefer to play with mouse, it capturing the gamepad instead annoyed me).

Running Win 10 1809, Nvidia 1070, if that's of any use.

If there's any more detail you'd like just ask.

Thank you very much for your help with this! So just to get this straight it was on the first brawler in the game.

The first brawler has a "stop" in the middle of the combat to teach the player about the brawler.

That stop looks like this. https://imgur.com/FbFhbaB

You cannot continue with the brawler unless you press attack to get past this stop.

So are you getting past this part? https://imgur.com/FbFhbaB

Because if you are getting past the part in the image then the controls worked during that first part of the brawler. Knowing if you get past that part would help us track this down.

Also, does it happen every single time consistently? Or only sometimes?

Again thank you very much for your help with this.

That video is a big help! The game doesn't even enter the tutorial part. That's a big clue, THANK YOU!

Just tried again with these changes:

  • resetting the gamepad detection to on, but same deal
  • tried running in a window instead of full screen.
  • Note that I resized the game window to the minimum to fit it in the window, just in case that has any relevance.
  • Also tried holding down mouse buttons and also tried every other button on my mouse - same again.
  • Finally, tried closing down the Logitech mouse software that runs in the background.

@moonspook So does the game stop on that brawler each time? No matter what happens, it always stops there?

You're welcome. I adored OFDP 1, so if I can help with this.. Also, if you're feeling thankful enough and/or this really helps nail this bug, feel free to throw me a key to OFDP 2 sometime *cheekygrin*

Yep, I've not gotten any further yet - it always breaks there, not showing the tutorial prompt and semi-disabling input.

Ok, it's definitely something wrong with the game. It's very puzzling because it's happening consistently with only a very few people. This is very troublesome and we'll be working on this as our top priority.

Just tried one more time - noticed that the Menu/Exit button at the bottom right also doesn't function during the brawler too. Hope you guys can get this nailed :)

I will definitely send you a free game key.

There's no way to get a video of you playing from the beginning of the game (title screen) up until the point where you reach the brawler?

I understand that you're busy and it's brutal of me to ask this, so if you can't I totally understand.

Not a problem at all. The below video is with the XBox One controller unplugged, and is from the initial boot of the game through to failing the third level because of the bug. During the bug on the brawler I also quickly skip through the options pages so you can see how it's set up (although I'll note that options don't seem to save between game sessions, just like game progress also doesn't - not sure if the latter is intentional, but I'd imagine the former isn't?)

Also, thank you so much (in advance) for the key! Am genuinely excited :)

Signing off now as it's late here in the UK, but I'll catch up on any responses/questions tomorrow.

I'm also seeing exactly the same loss-of-control-bug on the tutorial boss if you need another platform to troubleshoot this issue.
Nekrotik Feb 12, 2019 @ 4:03pm
As I mentioned in the other post, I have exactly the same error as moonspook, with the gamepad connected or disconnected that does not matter, the tutorial of the images does not appear and enters directly into the fight. Hopefully help fix it and thanks to moonspook for the video. In the video it is perfectly appreciated as the tutorial does not appear.
Sorry for my English is not my language.

Thank you again for this video. We'd baffled how your version could be different from anyone else. In theory, the software is identical. In theory, the hardware makes no difference here.

But we're confident it's 100% a software issue on our end.

The problem is, we can't fix it if we can't reproduce the problem. And there seems to be no way to trigger this specific event on our end.

However, all that being said we uploaded a new build to Steam. Please update your demo on Steam. We took a wild shot in the dark and changed a couple of things that might do something to help the issue. But it's a wild shot in the dark!

Let me know if it fixed the issue!!! Fingers crossed!
