"smersh.exe has stopped working"

Can't get the game to start up. I keep getting this message. Any solutions?

Changing compatibility mode to "windows XP Service Pack 3" solved this issue for me. Hope it will work for you too!

I managed to fix it by going in the game files and installing direct x.

Did you force it to run DirectX 9? I know my machine has 11. My game won't stop crashing about 5 minutes in.

Go to the game folder and click SmershSetup.
Set your settings.
If it does not help, then install compatibility with Win Vista
