Are weapons balanced properly?
I havent finished the game but I noticed while playing with another person who was using the rocket launcher had no problems decimating enemies while other weapons struggled in comparison.

Some weapons are better for killing special kinds of mobs then others. There is a pretty OP mini-gun you can find in the game that is better then all the others. But honestly you can beat the game with any gun if you upgrade it. Just use one you find fun and put all your upgrades into it.

Lots of weapons are viable when upgraded, depends on your preferred style. AR, AR with homing bullets, LMG, SMG, shotgun, rocket launcher, minigun, flamethrower are all good... that's almost every weapon type in the game.

The rocket launcher is an early drop that is powerful and fun, but it is not ideal for every situation, such as when you are being swarmed by melee enemies.

I would hold off on spending components on upgrades until around 4 main missions in, to accumulate enough weapon variety to make an informed choice as to what weapons to funnel components into.

A dread at mk6 does the same damage as the heavy 100 round machine gun at mk1. While the big gun has significantly more spread for prolonged bursts the mag size plus the increased knockback makes the dread almost redundant. Bad weapon balance imo.

This is not a competitive multiplayer shooter. The weapons are not supposed to all be equal in power to each other.

You're supposed to find better and better weapons as you explore and progress through the game. For example, the P1 Protector pistol you start with is clearly inferior. The Overwhelmer[theascent.wiki.fextralife.com] is clearly a superior machine gun to the Dread. The P9000 is a better SMG than the Habdefender. However, many types of weapons are viable, as I said.

"You're supposed to find better and better weapons as you explore and progress through the game." .. sort of. There's no reason why you cant try to balance them more though. Obviously there's a limit because an apple isnt meant to work as an orange.

If all weapons were balanced, there would be no interest in having multiple weapons in the game and they would loose their identity.

Yes. As you progress through the game you will continue to find more powerful weapons to take out the increasingly powerful enemies. Also keep track of damage type versus armor type; some weapons will work gloriously against one enemy and struggle against another.

What do I do about upgrading past mk 10? I have 5 superiors and the requirements say I need 1 to upgrade but its not working. Can't do the last bit if my artillery doesn't kill stuff.

Max is MK10 until you get your hand in the DLC. Some ennemies are resistant tyo certain types of damage. It is better to have multiple weapons upgraded.

I bashed my head against the problem and beat the game. I'm bitter about not being able to mod the guns further, but that just means not playing it anymore. All's well and then I remember dense people vote and the depression returns.

i used the gun that fires a burst homing shot as soon as i was able, once you et the dlc then melee is x10 better than any gun

The very OP mini-gun can only be found at the final stage of the campaign. If you have the tendency to look around everywhere before go into do the mission everytime you will find that gun no problem, otherwise it is easily miss.

There are one gun that do devastating damage to robots that can only brought from a certain vendor in the mid game.

There are two guns that can fire "homing bullets" one of them can be found in a lock crate and the other one is brought in a certain vendor (I think).
