Lost saved games/profiles on computer crash

My computer hard rebooted (been happening occasionally for a while, not just with The Ascent), and now the saves are gone, "Switch character" is empty, and the only option to play to create a new game. I tried verifying files, no change. Is there any kind of recovery? Seems like aside from local files, the Steam cloud sync should have that info
