ive tried mouse and key board and now an xbox controller and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I am constantly aiming just right or left of the person and with a slight touch go the stick im now no where near the target.

do you have previous experienced with top down shooters? I agree it can be weird and hard to get used to, but the controls are as smooth as they can be for this kind of game.

Have you tried turning Aim Assist up to High?

I haven't really had any issues, and randomly spinning one-tap people for entertainment, so I don't think it's the game... or at least my set up. Is there a sensitivity setting?

Also, I can confirm that I have had issues with the character spinning in circles at high speeds in the menu when I'm just trying to turn them slowly. It could be related to that, but a restart of the game for me fixes it until it crops up again... maybe somehow that crept into the actual shooting controls too, or you have something on your computer causing an issue?

I definitely wouldn't rule out a bug in the game...

It's not the control's fault. Well, it is, but there's nothing that can be done about it. It's normal for any shooter that uses a stick to aim and you'll see this in other games like Hell Divers too. In this game, you are given a laser sight for free so you should be at least thankful for that. You can see whether a shot will hit or miss before you pull the trigger. You don't get a laser sight for free in all games of this type.

You have to develop a sense of the angle between your character and the enemy on screen (both of which vary in position screen) and the angle with your controller. It's not easy by any means, but it is possible to hit enemies on the first shot, every shot, with semi-automatic weapons, WITHOUT a laser sight, when both of you are on the move if you develop the skill. It's not pointing and click like it is with the mouse.

Also, I don't know how you are using the stick, but if you aren't already make sure to hold it at its edge limits the entire time. Don't let it float in the middle between center and edge. Strafing left or right also helps move your line of fire so it intersects. You should always be moving anyways

Settings > Auto-Aim: High

Eventually you'll get used to it.

Is that the term? Because if you said that to me I would have no idea what you meant.

Ultra terrible with keyboard or controller. Sadly this was an easy uninstall because I like these games.

I've noticed it feels like the character's aim wants to stick to 8 axis directions, and has trouble panning between them. Could be my controller but I've adapted my play style to adjust for aim problems.

I've been a keyboard and mouse guy since Quake 1 but this is super easy on a controller. To be completely honest I sucked for about the first hour but improved pretty quickly thereafter (it was that or rage quit!)

One issue I've noticed on controller is that it seems like both my left and right stick inputs are kind of 'snapping' to the axes. If i smoothly rotate the right stick, it kind of sticks to the left/right/up/down directions. I can't do any sensitive/minute aiming in those directions because of this which feels awful.

Testing the controller on windows shows that it is working properly, no iffyness and smooth rotation in those directions.

Ive also noticed this in some other games, and in some apps like the xbox accessories app it also behaves like this. Really annoying me as its hard to tell if its per game or maybe some weird thing with the xbox accessories app?

I think the the game has pretty much flawless controls with a controller, just how I remember old twin sticks like arcade smash tv and loaded. Real smooth. Great game.

I wasn't sure how much of the "missing" was the "aim" skill. Is it a control issue or is it that in an RPG newbish players can't aim yet? I've been adding point to my aim skill but it's not really noticeable yet.
