Hacking...

Hack everything, it says.

Everytime I press C to hack then I just get an array of Access Denied messages on screen.

What exactly should I be able to hack?

Check the details on your hacking board, in the equipment menu; it will tell you what it can and can't hack.

OK, so can the hacking board be upgraded and if so, how do you do that as not found a vendor that seems to do that...

You find them in the world.

there are "Cyberdeck Upgrades" around the maps, the Chests on the Area Maps indicate them, among many other Chests and goodies. you mostly find the Golden glowing upgrades along the Story mission, if you explore around a bit.

I wondered what they were, I couldn't find a way of setting a checkpoint so I could find them as they don't seem to appear as good chests on the hud...

Go through the whole game to get the upgrades, then wander around the map after you're already done everythnig to open up some doors and chests.
At least you can use those new items in New Game +

All deck upgrades, components and skill points show as gold chest on the map. There are also, by my count, two extra cyberdeck upgrades past the limit needed to hit the max rank.

Just spent half an hour looking for gold chests and opened a few, none of which were deck upgrades...

Most importantly, you can hack those vending machines and get more health packs from them than you will if you just blow them up.

They wont ALL be deck upgrades or components or skill points. Sometimes it's armor, tactical or augs. Point is that is where you will find the deck upgrades and other good stuff, gold chest icons.

Obviously not at the point where I can hack vending machines just yet.

Had a look at the cyberdeck tab, once I realised it was there, and I have a Peacemaker so I can analyse and hack Ice1 doors & turrets.

At least I know a bit more now, so will seek out gold chests where I see them on the map...would be nice to be able to set a waypoint though...
