Multiplayer servers.....where are they?

I understand that The Ascent was made by a small team and I am enjoying the game, especially the soundtrack. But Deep Rock Galactic was also (initially) made by a small team and they had peer to peer server system where you could host 4 players with details such as US, Continent, or World so you could tell what ping the host would have. Not knocking on The Ascent but i waiting for my friendslist to go online to play multiplayer is so....2012.
