Yes, DRM free release.

I'm gonna say Not Likely. It's an XBox X or whatever launch title. I think GoG is great, I'm just realistic given whatever MS's involvement is in this.

More likely you might found this eventually on Microsoft's PC games store or as part of its Gamepass subscription. And it'll never be as promptly updated as it will (hopefully?) on Steam cause of MS's slowpoke patch approval process.

Agreed. I'm gonna play it solo anyway, might as well cut the connection completely and ensure I have the files for life.

Steam can play offline as well. DRM free just means you wouldn't need to use the launcher again once you download it.

And what if Valve decides to restrict or remove Offline mode?

DRM free isn't just another way of saying Offline, its a matter of having a game that can not be remotely restricted, specially by a 3rd party service.

You missed "install", I said install and play offline, I want an offline installer or an archive.
And I know that Steam let me backup games, but you need to login to reinstall and re activate them.

It is also worth noting under the legal contract you sign with Valve, you have no ownership right, not even a license from the publisher.

So even if you can use the software without having to use Steam, you loose your right to do so if you leave Steam.

If a game is drm free you can use it without steam. And with steam games you own a license to play them

Go to bottom of this page, click on "Steam Subscriber Agreement" and READ it.

Section 2A

It clearly states that the games are licensed by Valve (regardless of actual publisher), and those licenses end when the subscription contract ends.

I said under that contract

The problems are, No-one reads it and even when spelled out in exact detail, no-one want to believe it.

Agreed. Considering the game has online co-op, one using Steam, the other using Microsoft (crossplay between Xbox One, Series and Win 10), it unlikely they'll do another online co-op system just for a GOG release.
