I just watched a bit of KatherineOfSky's gameplay videos and now i'm really excited to play the game.
End goal gives me a reason to do all this stuff (escape a planet for example). Some milestone that I work towards. Why would I want to progress if I know that I will quit the game, when I am bored and not when i successfully finish the game?
I know that people can enjoy just endless sandbox, but and Endgame should be an option for people like me, even if it is a big red button which i need to press and then the credits roll.
Welp then a lot of games I know are over very fast for you ... cause I know they have a button in main menu that rolls the credits.
Joke aside
I heard people like this existing, still not believing people like this exists.
For many in factorio launching the rocket isn't the end. It is where fast run timers are stopped (to get certain achievements. For many the goal is to make a factory that can produce as much stuff as possible. ... like launching hundreds of rockets per minute. Or doing (the endless) end game science as fast as possible ... and then face a new map and do it all over. ... maybe with difficulty cranked up. (it is surprisingly few who do that ... and also surprising how stupendously hard you can make the game ... if not outright impossible ... I still not dare to use the hardest setting)
Yeah. I got your point and as I said I know people can enjoy sandbox games for sake of sanboxing :)
I am just saying that there are other group of players, who enjoy building towards some ultimate finish. And a lot of companies are incorporating that "goal" to satisfy that group of people.
For example subnautica is one of my most beloved games. You can spend hours "sandboxing" but the story says - you are stranded, get the hell out of there... So both parties can find their enjoyment.
So if there is no endgame, group of players who likes that are kind of missing that sense of acomplisment. I dont even know if it makes any sense :D
Cheers
And I can tell you it takes a lot of effort! Its a real long fun way!
If you have trouble understanding it, try to imagine it like this: Let´s say you have a fantastic series you watch on TV. It entertains you well for a lot of episodes. And then at one point there simply aren´t anymore episodes. But the story had no real ending. Even though the story was entertaining, looking back the series would have been better with an end.
Entertainment lifes just as much in our memory as it does when we actively play it (if you don´t play to just kill time at least). And a definite end makes the memory better, at least for me. That´s why, when you think back on the game you played as a kid, you remember those you finished more fondly than those that just went on. At least for me it´s that way.
