The only odd part is you need to flood the tiles to be able to refill them (hopefully this will change), so plan your access to the nearest water.
Steps:
1. Remove any turf in the channel to the water, so it's only dirt or sand you want to remove.
2. Use the dredger on the dirt and/or sand you would like to remove.
3. Make sure you connect the dredged area to a water source so it becomes flooded.
4. Supply dirt or sand (depending on what tiles you would like to end up with) to fill the water to swamp, and continue to fill the swamp until it turns back to a land tile.
It takes three loads of dirt or sand to turn a water tile to a swamp, and swamp to a terrain tile.
The only bit I would really like to see change is the need to flood before you refill the land, but it's certainly doable in its current state. Given the amount of digging and bucketing I would recommend a degree of automation, especially if you're treating a large area.
It works all ways - dirt to sand, sand to dirt, dirt to dirt, sand to sand... or just leave it as water or swamp.
Or dredged land, although there doesn't appear to be a use for that right now.
We're making robots out of wood. Game is game - implausibility is inevitable.
Even getting infinite water/soil/sand from a single tile at all is implausible.
Well, it's the one there is. Gonna have to suck it up, unless you can campaign for a solution you prefer.
