Can't seem to play online?

Just bought this game recently for me and my friend when it went on sale for 80% off. We've tried a couple of times to get the online to work, but we can never seem to connect to each other. We're both on PC through Steam, btw. We tried without crossplay, with crossplay, without Epic login, with Epic login. Anything we try, one of us hosts the game, gives the other the code, and the person joining ends up in an endless loading loop and never gets into the game. Also tried just joining random games on our own. It'll load for a couple of seconds, and then nothing happens. I wish there was some kind of message or error code for anything that has been going on, but no such thing happens. Makes it difficult to figure out why it's just not working.
