Results are not what I was used to in SO6
I've been breeding and producing some very talented looking 2YOs with lots of green and high 70-90% Potential bars.
However, these horses are just not performing up to what their talents show they are capable of.

Several young 2YOs with Speed way up around 90% and good solid green bars elsewhere cannot keep up with the leaders in sprints for some reason and will likely finish several lengths back.

Other horses that I would have considered very promising in SO6, based on the amount of solid green qualities, can barely progress through the Handicap races, often failing entirely at even 80 Handicaps or lower and staying there forever, or spending 2-3 years progressing up to 100 level Handicaps; by then they are about old enough for retirement.

Should Handicap races be avoided entirely and should I just keep entering them in Novice, Conditions and Listed and Group events?
Working horses up through Handicaps worked well in SO6, especially if I retained an Apprentice jockey with a good allowance.

Playing in Australia am surprised to see so many Claiming and Selling races; last time I checked, Australia doesn't have these races on the calendar.

Results generally just seem...odd.

best thing to do is find what distance your horse needs to reach it's peak and than hit the go each race at that distance. make sure your jockey has the orders bar all the way high so they listen to you. than set them all (in the pre-race jock screen) to go later since you'll be the one to manually tell your horses to go (with the in race orders).

as it seems (using max riding skill bar jockey) the majority of the time they will still go way early and your horse is outpaced final furlong or they open way late and your horse is just starting to pick up pace in the final furlong. so find that distance for your horse and click go yourself once you reach that marker, you'll have to adjust it by about 100 meters or so if your horse is racing at longer/shorter distances than usual but still more accurate than AI deciding it for you.

Hmmm
Just gave your idea of controlling when a horse "goes" a try.
Think I need more practice at it.
But do all horses need to run "even"? ;some horses naturally race better close to front and others naturally run better dropping out and then running on.

Might try a new game with manual control of training(offers even more control of training emphasis).
Tried manual training in SO6 but often the horses either ended up overdone or underdone on race day.
Maybe it's easier to get right now in SO7.

manuel control is rubbish because it removes the management aspect of the game ill never use jockey mode

I meant manual control of training.

Another easier method if you don't want to take notebook and pencil and mark all your horses down. Observe the whips of the favourite horses jockies and go when they do, not as accurate as getting the number down but a lot easier/quicker and will lend to podiums mb even a couple wins.

mb it's just been my lot of horses but in gallops i always get message that says horse doesnt prefer to lead when i select them as the gallop leader so i just default all mine to race even. mb that changes once you advance in the game to the top group horse but since i've only managed to work my stable up to group 3 atm it seems to work for me.
