For what it's worth, if you own a Nintendo Switch and feel like paying for Nintendo Online, they have HM64 on the N64 emulator there.
Friends of Mineral Town was actually GBA :)
The first NDS game was Harvest Moon DS (and DS Cute followed), which I would looooove a remaster/remake of. The "cute" (girl) version had already fixed some of the oversights/bugs of the boy version and had added a whole new character/story.
Harvest Moon 64 has many of the same characters from Mineral Town, but with totally different families and ties. For instance, Ellie and Jeff were romantically interested in one another and running a bakery (if I recall right). Karen and Kai I think were romantic interests... also the wives would help on the farm. Or... Karen would try, but Ellie would bake cakes for you too (I think they could collect eggs?). The general premise is the same as later games (taking over grandpa's farm generally and MC being a city kid), but the events and backgrounds are different in this game from Friends of Mineral Town (as well as other games in the series).
This game takes both Friends of Mineral, as well as More Friends of Mineral Town (girl version), and also adds some new characters and changes. I personally don't like a lot of the sprite updates, but some of the changes (like having a few fruit trees on the farm) is interesting. I also really like that there's a bell to call animals out for grazing and you don't need to literally push their butts to go in and out.
Still not sure how to feel about no basket and instead having larger bags/items stacking to 9, but overall I do think it's done rather well. Mineral Town was one of my absolute fav's growing up.
