Remake ?

Is this game a remake of Harvest Moon DS ? (Yes I know that it itself was a remake of an earlier version but the DS version had an impact on a lot of children of this time)

Nope. DS is I think just a next-gen Harvest Moon game that appeared just after HM:MFOMT (More Friends Of Mineral Town), which is basically a female-player FOMT. HM DS is by my standard a bit more complex (in a good way) but a little less charming/heartwarming than HM FOMT, but I fully understand the nostalgia You feel. HM DS has few characters from HM FOMT (Primarily date-able girls, bachelorettes), but majority of them is new to FOMT.

AFAIK there is no HM DS remake to date, neither SOS DS, but Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life contains the most characters from HM DS, so might be the closest "relative" game to it.

Harvest Moon DS is a sequel to A Wonderful Life and Friends of Mineral Town set 100 years afterwards. When initially localized, Natsume did not change the names as the characters highly resemble the A Wonderful Life cast, however the idea is that these are actually their grandchildren.

If we do get a Story of Seasons remake of Harvest Moon DS, expect a lot of changes to accommodate this intent.
