It's not just the access point being next to the diary. You jump into and lay down in the single bed. I guess the main characters are afraid of intimacy?
At 8pm to 10pm, your spouse would stand next to the double bed. If you went to the diary and went to sleep, your wife would hop in bed, followed by you.
-----
While it's odd they don't do that anymore in these games (...seriously Marvelous, they're married. How is them sleeping in the same bed considered "wrong"?)...
... I'm much more puzzled by the fact the main character nowadays sleeps on top of the blankets and comforters, and still in his/her work clothes.
Would it have killed them to animate the character sleeping under the blankets/comforter/sheets like pretty much everyone in real-life with a bed does?!
------
(Also, with clothing, that was another oddity with 64.
Each of the girls has a "sick" event (green heart or higher), where on a rainy day, if you visit their house, the girl turns out to be in bed with a cold.
You get to visit their room and talk to them. This is the one and only time you ever get to see their bedrooms.
(Apparently, they also don't have a problem with you seeing them in bed in their nightgowns, either.)
Hey, that's the whole point of having a forum.
Otherwise, Marvelous would just say "Shut up, pay us, take your game, and that's your lot."
That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if the single bed you sleep in has some logic attached to it and in the end it was just easier for the developers to slap the new bed right next to your old one, without relocating anything.
