Can't sleep in the same big bed as your spouse?
Am I stupid or something, or is there no way to sleep in the same bed as your spouse? Before midnight, your spouse just talks to you saying goodnight or whatnot, and after midnight they are fast asleep and you just get the "this is a big bed" message. You can only sleep in the small bed! What gives! I know some partners tend to take up the entire bed when they sleep, but this is ridiculous. What is the point of having a big bed if you can't even use it?

That's how it always have been since Back to Nature. When you upgrade your house, you'll need 2 separate beds before they agree to marry you.

I think this is just how Japanese culture is regarding beds for married couples. Nothing we can do about it. It is what it is.
It made sense in the past when it was 2 single beds, not a double bed and a single bed. I understand the the other spot will probably be used by your kid, but still. Until then it would have been nice to be able to share a double bed like normal people.

Yeah, but even in the original GBA version of FoMT is using a single bed and a double bed.

My guess would be the double bed is for you and your spouse, the single bed is for your child.
But the access point to sleep is next to the diary, which is on the single bed.

It's not just the access point being next to the diary. You jump into and lay down in the single bed. I guess the main characters are afraid of intimacy?

it's because when you have a child it will sleep between you and your spouse

I know that, but when you don't have a child, why not sleep in the same bed? Makes little sense.

Strangely, 64 did have that happen.

At 8pm to 10pm, your spouse would stand next to the double bed. If you went to the diary and went to sleep, your wife would hop in bed, followed by you.
-----

While it's odd they don't do that anymore in these games (...seriously Marvelous, they're married. How is them sleeping in the same bed considered "wrong"?)...

... I'm much more puzzled by the fact the main character nowadays sleeps on top of the blankets and comforters, and still in his/her work clothes.
Would it have killed them to animate the character sleeping under the blankets/comforter/sheets like pretty much everyone in real-life with a bed does?!
------

(Also, with clothing, that was another oddity with 64.
Each of the girls has a "sick" event (green heart or higher), where on a rainy day, if you visit their house, the girl turns out to be in bed with a cold.
You get to visit their room and talk to them. This is the one and only time you ever get to see their bedrooms.
(Apparently, they also don't have a problem with you seeing them in bed in their nightgowns, either.)

I may sound serious, but I'm not. I gripe here for the sake of griping.

Hey, that's the whole point of having a forum. :lunar2019grinningpig:
Otherwise, Marvelous would just say "Shut up, pay us, take your game, and that's your lot."

I feel like it would have more sense to push the single bed to the far right next to the wall for your kid and then use the double bed for you and your spouse.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if the single bed you sleep in has some logic attached to it and in the end it was just easier for the developers to slap the new bed right next to your old one, without relocating anything.
