The trick to getting Van's Favorite?

I tried the 'Buy 10 items' trick but it doesn't work.

Its not "buy 10 items" but "make 10 transactions". You need 10 instances of purchasing something. The number purchased does not matter. You can buy a 9 stack of chicken feed 10 times and it will count, but buying 10 chicken feed at once will only count as 1 transaction.

I have 3 of this and what's that for? Gave it to Van but he told me I need money to get something special. What is this "special" thing?

If you give it to Van after you buy the record player from him, you can buy all music from him for 1 million. Otherwise, if you befriend Huang (Won), you can sell it to him for 47k to 57k.

Nope. I got several of those before I even got close to unlocking Van.
