To sum it up: The were making 64 for PS1 and some stuff happened - radically different results.
When he returned, he was not happy with the results.
Recycling the characters might have been one of the things he hated.
Well, technically Magical Melody was a...sort of.... reboot?
Aside from a few OCs, half of the cast were from Save the Homeland, and the other half were from SNES.
(Yeah, fun fact: The Ellen you can marry in Magical Melody... is the same Ellen in this game (Elly's grandmother))
(And yes, the other 4 were grandmothers of the Mineral girls. Nina = Popuri, Maria = Marie, Ann = Ann/Ran, Eve = Karen.
Also, in 64, Ann = Gray (Ran's brother) and Rick (Ran's cousin); and Eve = Cliff (Karen's cousin))
Actually that was another relationship in the game that has been altered that I found kind of odd when I was a kid. It made sense that Ran(Ann) and Rick were related because they both were red heads, but then in BTN they made Rick related to Popuri who has pink hair? Also I don't even think Gray is Rans brother anymore either.
To be fair in my opinion, BTN is a better game than 64 lol.
Oh, to be sure.
64 is always my favorite, but yeah, BTN streamlined so much stuff and overhauled the graphics so nicely.
(I still secretly hope 64 gets a remake, but I know the odds of that are slim to none. Still, I'll take 64's Elli's cameo in Tree of Tranquility (as she's a baker in that, not a nurse))
-----
Maybe Rick got his hair from their father?
But yeah, 64 Rick even inherited Ann (SNES)'s love of inventing, as he's an inventor in 64.
And as far as I know, no, Gray and Ran are not related in this game.
