Is there anything to watch out for regarding marriage?

Nothing is final until you gift the Blue Feather to your chosen spouse. You can even show the Preserved Flower (you can trigger the event after you see a Blue Heart event for any candidate) to everyone.

also you can confess to every girl/guy at green heart and get a trophy for it, then you can set upon the marriage path of your choosing afterwards.

From what I've read, there are only two marriage candidates you can lock yourself out of, and they're both secret romances. Both Kappa and Harvest Goddess have a requirement that when the Goddess asks you during an event who you are interested in, you have to say them. So if you say Kappa, you can't marry HG. Say HG, can't marry Kappa. And say any other name, can't marry either.

You would actually have to be pretty deep in their specific routes to be even locked out of the other and since both are actually hard to discover on your own you would actually have to know and want to get in to their specific routes

I remembered back when i wanted to know if i can romance the harvest goddess in hero of leaf valley if it would be possible to marry the harvest goddess of btn and fomt too since i always married Elli or Popuri.

popuri was the easiest choice, likewise with ann/ran if you knew she loved steamed egg's from the hot spring, and i never bothered with the two routes in fomt i spent most of my time making the harvest sprites do my chores lol

its not a "route" lock until you do the events to those heart levels cause did they remove the rivals mechanic? if yes then YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT

maybe they have no final marriage in the end, but i did see a confession aswell

I was too young then, and didn't really know what I was doing. but you can actually "gameover" if you don't marry someone by then. not sure how it is now.

It is still there but they will never follow-up through it and they will never marry each other.

Rival events still happen, rival marriages were removed since the jp players didn't like it
